Sounds like everybody wants their cut.

Crazy!

Need to propose a #### near direct mirror concept to the NFL at this point. A structured, working, model that is obviously the target directive it seems.

Just get 1 commissioner who is the end all rule setter and answer-to-guy. Install salary caps, much lower than NFL so there's still incentive to work for better, and finally count all their scholarship/training/medical/food/etc value to be withdrawn from their contact.

If they want to be a man about it, and get to the league with sacrifice it takes, something needs to change.

I think every contract should have a non-compete clause, as many other “companies” do. It could have a term of one year.

Schools do not have the funds to pay athletes and if athletes are receiving large sums in NIL money, why would they want to give that up. Baker is is about to stink in his mess kit.

I know that a lot of you guys hate the idea of pay for play, but I am afraid that ship has sailed.

Given that college football players are going to get their share of the incredibly big pie that is NCAA football, I think it is better to just pay them outright and put the university sports departments in charge of the payrolls.

First of all, it eliminates the corruption already rampant in the independent NIL foundations.

Secondly, if the athletic departments are controlling the pay outs, perhaps they can set up better rules to stop the tampering and poaching of players.

Finally, I think the money will get more evenly distributed across the entire rosters of team instead of just a few stars.

I know this is virtually the opposite of the college football that many of us grew up loving, but it will be better than the cesspool that were are currently heading towards.

Love my college FB since 50s BUT now want FB to

get off my Clemson campus that was formed in 1889 to educate state citizens and go build themselves their own stadium and call their college team a semi-professional club, and be called the Clemson FB Club.

Saying, it’s a joke to use the word Student/Athlete in the same sentence or context today.

Oh, since Death Valley is available and on campus, the Clemson Administration should simply charge Dabo & organization millions in rent and a cut on profits made from the stadium usage and apply it to lowering student fees.

Bill,

I think it is possible to salvage the student/athlete concept if the university pays the players directly. The universities (or the conferences or the NCAA) could set rules that required academic progress to be eligible for payment.

The amatuer football player is gone, but the student athlete does not have to be.

His”conversation starter” proposal is an NCAA pipe dream and will never be implemented for a multitude of reasons. IMO, the only potential solution is for further consolidation of conferences until you have 1 or 2 super conferences that make a clean break from the NCAA for football. Fewer cooks in the kitchen at that point and a greater chance of ironing out issues.

Its going to happen but not sure it will fix anything. I believe if football players are paid than all scholarship athletes will be paid which will dilute amount for football. Even if athletes are paid based on signing their NIL rights to the school, what is to stop the UGA boosters from hiring a player as a consultant to funnel money? The genie is out of the bottle and I dont see a way to stuff it back in the bottle.

So, the NCAA can't regulate the disaster they created

and we're supposed to believe they can regulate a bigger disaster. This proposal makes it perfectly legal for the schools to create, invest in, and control an NIL engine. This takes the current status of the schools with large donor pools out of the shadows and into the open. No longer will the players going to the highest bidder be a hushed secret, it will be legitimized and celebrated. The NIL and the transfer portal have ruined college football. Most casual observers recognize this. This new proposal does nothing to fix the problem. Rather, it cements it in stone.

Transition = chaos and confusion.

The guys who set up this system - portal, NIL, realignment, etc - can now see that it is broken and unsustainable. (I could make a political statement here about every time politicians solve a problem they actually create worse problems, but I won't.)

Baker's plan may or may not be adopted. But, it does show that the folks who are now living with the consequences of chaos and turmoil are willing to talk about fixing it.

So, next week is just another, albeit big, step in getting us through the transition.
