Unbelievable. They knew that they could never win back when they had food basketball.

well if there is not a bias attitude against Clemson and for tobacco road teams what are we complaining about? if you cant see that duke and unc get the calls and favorable treatment in the acc then you are not logical. it is why the coots left the acc and we should have as well. it will always be a basketball first and tobacco road first conference!

A factor for sure but the main reason was the 800 rule

for SATs in the ACC when the rest of the NCAA was 700 or 750 (memory aint what it used to be). Ironically the 800 rules was thrown out by courts with in a year or so after they left. Tobacco Road hated the gamecocks of the late 60s and the coots could not take it so they bailed. When the going gets tough the coots get bailing.

the 800 rule was initiated by Duke and UNC, to make sure we couldn't get our best player on the court - which would have made USC the favorite to win the ACC that year. Same thing though - NC schools doing everything they can to rig the deck for themselves.

He couldn't get in because he was a flunkie….

SCU was a very good basketball team under McGuirre, they won a lot of games. ACC officiating had no effect on the coots. The coots record during that era proves that point. The only reason SCU got good players back then was because they were in the ACC. After SCU left they couldn't attract quality players anymore. Bobby Cremins is more loyal to the ACC, than he is his own alma mater.

McGuire had the only team in the country picked to beat UCLA and didn't get into NCAA because you had to win your conference tourney back then. Going independent gave him a better shot at NCAA's. Dumb move.
