Not to excuse Hegseth et Al - but Obama / Biden also used Signal

Obama admin started using Signal for internal communications in ~ 2014.

I’d read that Biden Handlers Admin also used it; I presume that Trump 45 Admin also did.

Although the Hegseth / Signal-Gate episode was potentially problematic, the Houthi matter made it a weak sauce story. Technical error, no doubt. Consequences for America and America’s Middle East allies, none.

Personally, I’m thrilled about the fub-up. It exposed a weakness that the Trump admin of which Trump 47 admin had not been aware and/or a protocol error.

This / these mistakes are easy to fix.

As for the water-under-the-bridge thingy, I wonder if any previous Signal breaches were used by serious foreign adversaries to their advantage in countering truly meaningful internal American policies. I doubt we’ll ever learn about previous Signal fub-ups (if indeed any such fub-ups actually occurred).

process? It is against Department of Defense policy to use Signal. Does this register for you? I doubt there's anything in the DoD policy about adding random journalists to Signal chats, because those Signal chats aren't supposed to happen in the first place when dealing with confidential information.

Your excuse gymnastics are pathetic.

Signal chat is authorized, and now your are saying the chat was confidential and not secret or top secret?

Those are 3 different levels of classification. So which one was the texts?

We know it’s authorized! It’s just not authorized for the kind of info Hegseth put on there😳. He can state all day that he didn’t put the classified “label” on the info but anyone reading the “attack plans” can see that that kind of information should not be seen by just anyone.

All the excuses are indeed pathetic. Those idiots know this was a massive fuq up but continue to deflect and blame others. It’s right out of the tangerine turds playbook. From blaming the journalist for being ASKED to be in the chat to stating the info wasn’t classified to then deflecting and saying the journalist is a dishonest hack. It’s just embarrassing that we have a president and cabinet members that will continue lying instead of just admitting their fuq up and moving on.

we spent nearly a decade listening to the hubbub about Hillary using a private server for potentially classified information, and here you are rationalizing the use of private servers for classified Whitehouse and DOD communication. But that should be normal, I would think that conservatives would be in favor of outsourcing COMSEC instead of relying on government systems, as long as it is not a Democrat.

He was already a joke who should've been voted down in the Senate. His past is not indicative of someone who can handle a job like this.

If this administration was even remotely normal - which it is not - he'd either be fired or he'd "leave Government to spend more time with my family"....

Waltz might need to step aside, too...He's the idiot that looped Goldberg in...

Or be prosecuted. All they need to do is admit they screwed up. Made a mistake. Several actually. Apologize for it. And make sure it won't happen again.

All you need to do. But our quality of leadership has been in decline for a while. So you get low quality work and low quality character.

Instead of having the character to take responsibility they choose to lie and blame others. Just sad.

It's pure arrogance and the unwillingness to admit to poor judgment only prolongs making this into an even bigger political event.

It was a dumb error to discuss a military operation on Signal, dumber yet to include an unfriendly journalist on the chat, and even dumber to continue to defend the indefensible.

See Bill Clinton getting a BJ in the Oval Office. If Bill had simply owned up to his stress relief sessions with Monica, told America he was sorry and that the problem was one that he hoped to work out with Hillary while asking publicly and privately for her forgiveness, his deal would have disappeared from the public eye in short order.

We are told now not to believe our lying eyes when reading the texts Goldberg provided. This was a very dumb move to begin with, but this "clean up" is emblematic of amateur hour.

If all of this helps a few Pubs grow a spine then this will turn out to have been a fortuitous event. Blind loyalty is never a good thing.

Haven't you read this thread? The kooks don't want an apology. They've already decided some underling "accidentally" adding a scumbag reporter is worse than Hillary intentionally setting up the years long use of an unauthorized and unsecured server which she then destroyed when it's contents were subpoenaed. I mean this is obviously a screw up but the clowns calling for resignations aren't serious or rational people.

Hegseth, like the idiot that he is, chose to post the details, including times, of an upcoming military operation on Signal without verifying who was in the group. And LOL at the blond skanque who along with the rest of this administration who tries to gaslight us into believing nothing classified or top secret was posted on a compromised application.

Waltz was a congressman and is still on probationary status as a MAGAcon. As a pre-MAGA congressman he probably interfaced with a variety of individuals. Once in MAGA though -a new acolyte has to forget the old ways. Especially those on probation.Tsk tsk - Mike didn’t delete.

Maybe Mile and Jeff got chummy here?:

— meaning with little executive maturity. His updates should have been much more limited and nuanced…

Along the lines of…
“Plans finalized. Ready”
“Wheels up” or some other cliche
“Wheels down. All objectives accomplished ”
Maybe add “Zero causalities “
And then to compliment the military service members who executed the mission “Appreciate the team, flawless execution.”

Waltz should resign. He was responsible for setting up the Signal group chat and held accountable for the mistake of not validating attendees, managing content and overall security of information.
