That's the S&P by Bill Connelly...one of the better statistical versions that have been used the past several years. It's the returning production that made Clemson slip....mainly the losses on defense. Not surprising really. This isn't the AP poll. This one takes tons of things in consideration....and throughout the year, is one of the only ones that actually factors out garbage time stats, etc.

When I first started reading I felt they were wrong about Clemsons place. After reading that they have Syracuse 56 and BC 71, I have absolutely no respect for the article. I would love to bet any of them on the final rankings of either of those two

year that gives SEC teams a 2-3 point bump and similarly penalizes teams from the worst G5 conferences. The ACC falls towards the middle so ACC teams probably don't see much of an adjustment in either direction.

Gumby This is my vote for post of the day! Well said!
The folks who pay attention to recruiting services are the same ones who buy Mel Kiper on NFL players capabilities! I.E. if he was so good; he would have been a GM for some team a long time ago.
His fail rate as far as projection to the next level is high(I have no metric to give; but if you have watched him enough you know).
Recruiting services similarly often give kids who maybe come from a tradition rich program higher marks than their play deserves! And a kid who went to a traditional non-power H.S. a lower mark than they should have. Clemson coaches don't care about recruiting services ranking of players! Seems to me; they get it right more often than they miss! I trust Clemson coaches far more than a recruiting ranking!
Keep in mind Clemson may only offer 150 kids a cycle. Where Alabama or Georgia or Ohio State may offer 350 or better! They take the best of the allotted amount and string the rest out. Clemson only targets those kids who will fit for the Clemson program, period!!!!!!
They'll see!

Alabama has a bigger edge on the rest of the field in this ranking compared to 2018 - almost five points clear of No. 2 in Georgia (35.4-30.7).
Gosh they may have the best college team EVER!!! They could certainly beat some NFL teams. This is unfair to the rest of college football. They will be at least a double digit favorite over anyone else. Just give them the trophy now!

It is a mystery to me why any Clemson fan cares where we are ranked. Keep in mind, in the playoff era the team ranked #1 entering the playoffs has lost every single time...including both times Clemson was ranked #1 entering the playoffs. I personally hope we remain ranked below Alabama or Georgia all year. Entering the playoffs ranked #2, #3, or #4 is fine with me.

I understand that it's simple statistical analysis, but when your #18 team is incapable of going better than 5-7, your analysis is pretty flawed.
The second best ACC team from 2018 is positioned at #56--3 spots below the lowest-rated SEC team.
Two items working against SYR in this rating: Dungy's production will be missing in 2019, and the 5-year avg doesn't include the most recent season, when they were 10-3. Hmmm.
Barbers still has a good but shallow D returning. And I figure they're much better than both Vandy and The Chad-backs, and probably the Chickens, too.
UVA at #41, South Carolina #18. I'm now laughing until it hurts.

Top 3 things that confuse me about this beyond just being 3rd.
3) We are 3rd offensively. Really?
2) We are 3rd with 5 year weighted average behind Alabama and O31-0 State. I thought weighted would mean the most recent years would be more important. I am obviously wrong.
3) We Finished 3rd in their rankings last year. What the ####?
