Is there a 3rd way forward for Clemson and the 'She?

Jul 3, 2022, 3:44 PM

By many accounts, the Ay She She blew it (imagine that) when they passed on expanding the playoffs. And The Alliance obviously meant nothing.

It seems the two options everyone is talking about are 1) Clemson and the best ACC schools joining the SEC or the B1G, or 2) The ACC somehow expanding and joining forces with a bunch of other also rans who missed the boat (the SEC and B1G are now being called the Power 2).

But what if there is a 3rd option? What is Clemson and those who remain in the ACC fold. They say they're out of the arms race. No interest in becoming another pro league, no interest in making NIL bigger than getting a top-tier education, and we will go back to playing bowls, which will again having meaning for us, and if someone votes for us as "national champions", fine. No, we won't be among the biggest of big boys, but we will still play a good brand of football, still play our traditional, regional rivals, and still have a fan experience that is recognizable as a college game on a college campus.

What do you think?

1 is the only choice. 2 is not competitive and 2
3 is no bueno.

All we need is a couple of the Big12 schools to join the ACC and we are good to go. The Big12 is a good football and baseball conference and a great basketball conference. Everyone needs to see that we will be in the football playoffs if we are good, and lucky, enough to go undefeated and if the ACC got Baylor and Oklahoma State, or TCU, the conference would be awesome in basketball.

I’m with you on option 3, I think that’s exactly what is going to happen with the rest of the leftovers. Maybe not bowls but definitely student athlete focused. Now whether Clemson is a part of option 3 I don’t know.

I’m sure 90% of people on here will think I’m crazy but I lean toward Clemson being in option 3 more than the semipro league that is going to form. I wonder if Clemson leadership is leaning that way as well. It’s no time for panic - I’m sure Clemson could have either option it wants. I’d be interested to know what DHood is hearing.

One thing seems for certain and that’s the ACC will remain in option 3 in some form or fashion. If the boat hasn’t already left the dock for keeping the ACC in the upper tier it’s blowing the departure horn.

There is a third option but they have to act now

Jul 3, 2022, 5:45 PM

A and B of that third option:
A.) is to try and be National like the Big and give ND an ultimatum by also offering Oregon, Washington, Oklahoma St, and a 5th team option of Colorado, Utah, West Virginia, Houston, Baylor, TCU, Cin or Central Fla. If Oregon, Washington, Oklahoma St accept and ND does not the. Bring Utah and Colorado or Utah and WV.
Two 10 team divisions

B.) is to just try and keep it close and raid Big 12 best . Some 5 combination of WV, Houston, Cin, C.Fla, Oklahoma St, Baylor, TCU

This B option probably not enough help.

If they could some how land ND, Oklahoma St, Oregon, Washington and Utah now that would be a win for the ACC to stay in the game. Would suck for fans though

It’s all shifting chairs on the Titanic if we stay in the ACC. We’re already viewed as a weak conference as compared to the SEC and Big 10. Adding leftovers will just make us a bigger, weaker conference. The TV money isn’t here and our past leaders (goobers) locked us into the worst TV deal. It will take the lawyers and money to get us out.

With Clemson's academics the BiG is not viable.
The SEC has the lawyers and money to get Clemson, NC State and VaTech if they add $$ value. Only the money matters to SEC.
Clemson will make a great add to SEC, SEC, SEC.
Get used to it as soon you will be shouting that also.

Clemson going to Big 10 would be step down. SEC step up
