Some of the older folks here remember the war in Nam.

We, the youth in those days, cried out "Peace."
John 14: "27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."
What we sought was no to be for we sought the peace the world could give but the world can not give peace. Even when there is no war in the middle east, Asia, the streets of our major cities or even our homes the heart can be filled with turmoil wrought by confusion and disappointment.
Here is the only peace we will have in this world.
John 14:
"1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
2 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also."
It was the turn of 1970 when I God saved me, when I first trusted Jesus with my soul. When I read John 14 with eyes wide open to it I found peace.
If you are suffering a lack of peace I urge you to turn your heart over to God and let Jesus give you peace.

Nothing could be further from your point than this, but it is interesting to see how the left and right have flipped in view of war. In the Vietnam era, Dem was all about ending the war - though it was Kennedy/Johnson who created it - and the Rep were all about fighting on. Anti war sentiment was mostly a left view, the right wanting to 'fight for democracy' worldwide, and this seemed to carry through the Iraq war. Today it seems reversed. The right seems finally sick of quagmires that are not our responsibility, and the left seems willing to spend life and treasure for someone else's ideology.
That is one of the reasons you are right. There will be no peace on earth as long as we are the ones providing it. It is a gift, the result of a surrender to one's Savior.

With all this obsession of politics you'd think it's election time or something.

Can you explain how little I care for politics and the world in general? I can, it's a delightful freedom, broken bondage and a certain gift given by a merciful and loving Master.
I feel like I just got out of prison after doing the long ride and being given a pardon.

The further our culture gets from our Savior, the more fanatical it will become about politics, I think. The winning and losing is already about more than who wins and loses elections. It will get uglier. As you are pointing out, an individual can find freedom from it by surrender to the Savior.

There are two big reasons there will be no earthly Peace until

King Jesus returns and establishes his kingdom earth.
1. Human beings are terribly flawed creatures. We are born to sin and have been that way since we broke with God shortly after our creation. As flawed creatures the people in charge of our earthly Governments are influenced by many factors - "peace" ain't foremost among them. Throughout most of human existence, the powerful ruling elites among us always end up wanting more control and power of which war, violence, and iron-fisted cruelty are the methods they often choose.
2. Somebody always gets rich off of war. Simply put - most war is a racket and even those that are executed for "altruistic reasons" always results in some powerful entity profitting. That flawed human nature always rises to the top and where there is profit there will always be motivation and an excuse to fight a war.
God is the only one capable of giving us true Peace - both in the spiritual sense and the earthly type - because he is perfect and not subject to the human flaws that lead to war and despotism.

The peace you describe is called Shalom by the Hebrews. It's akin to the peace known by Adam and Eve in the Garden.
You're right about that type of peace, Christ will usher in that peace when He returns. For now peace within is enough for me.

“ Human beings are terribly flawed creatures”
Idk man, I think we are doing pretty good. Especially compared to all the other species on earth that kill and eat each other without any regard to life.
According to the evidence we broke off from the rest of the animal kingdom and have gotten better and better as time has gone on.
We are now living longer than ever and seem to have more respect for each others beliefs than ever. For some reason that is a problem to some.
