Missing wide open receivers, throwing ducks, even when he completes a pass it has zero spiral with poor placement for the receiver to get YAC. I would say the blame is 50/50 between Streeter's inability to manage DJ in our offense and DJ's inability to manage an offense.
I think our offense is going to shock some people this year. We will make our fair share of mistakes, especially early on, but I look for us to make them decisively and at full speed.

Agreed. He just doesn't have "it." Mediocre footwork, incredibly slow throwing motion, locks on to his first read.
Fortunately for Oregon State his first read has been more or less wide open all game.

I was hoping he would be successful. He did win a lot of games for us but just made too many dumb mistakes. And I hope Coach Steeter, being a Clemson alum, can land a job where he is happy and can be successful. He was a pretty good coach, just not a good OC.

He looks exactly like he looked with us. He will be a steady, game manager at a program that expects 2-4 losses a year. If he has them closer to 2 than 4, it will be a great year from them. At Clemson, finishing on the high end is still a massive disappointment. Apparently all recruiting services except ESPN missed badly this one.

given that this is likely his "last chance" at the NFL?
Ever think more rides on each pass and each call for him than for anyone on this website.
What I'd love to see is for people to be as critical of Dabo, Streeter, TE, Frank Ladson, Justyn Ross, EJ Williams, et al
as they are about this kid; or
instead cut him as much slack as they cut themselves every day in their own personal lives.
I am absolutely sick of supposed "Clemson fans". Just a bunch of wussies with a Capital P.

Nervous for three consecutive years?
That goes far above and beyond jitters, my friend.
Why are you taking this so personally? We all want DJ to be successful, but he doesn't appear to have the tools to be drafted and make an NFL team. Which is quite disappointing given his potential coming out of HS.

It’s an odd hill to die on, he proves our own points with his arguement… DJ is not capable of being a high end QB because of mental… the best out there have a short memory and no mental hurdles. Ole Mike is an odd dude that makes no sense in his arguments

Clemson is a high level program with high level expectations, just like UGA, Bama, OSU, etc…. Yes, we recruit, we spend and expect to have “the best out there” considering our investments… these aren’t the Tommy west or Bowden days, if we invest in you, we expect you to be “the best out there”. Mods, please take this trash out.

I hope he does well at or st. Have absolutely no ill will towards him. He just didnt pan out for us, for whatever reason. He's doing reasonably well vs san jose st. Hes managing the game, hitting enoigh receivers, to win the game. It is, however, san Jose st. Not bammer, lsu, oh st, etc.
Just to be devils advocate, there was a certain QB, from Michigan, who didnt do all that well in college. He was rooted in mediocrity. He did catch lightning in a bottle in new england

It's not a standard I hold him to. It's NFL scouts, which I assume he has interest in.
Mike, he can't throw a spiral, rarely hits a receiver in stride, and appears limited in his ability to read the field. Those are facts. I'm simply observing them as they relate to our disappointing offensive performances in 21 and 22.

Why are you mad and how much do you understand about football? Blaming everyone at Clemson except DJ is a little short sided. Ever thought our WR’s would have been better if they had the opportunity to catch catchable throws instead of fielding them after they 1 hop into their legs.
I for one think he looks ok today. Pro style offense with the play action in the I formation seems to be a better fit, but his decisiveness is still lacking. Going to hurt them when they play a Dline with a pulse. Do not wish anything but good things for him but not all his issues at Clemson were other peoples fault.

Hes mediocre. Hes hitting wide open receivers, but hes throwing behind them or making them wait. He has hit most of his passes, but only 1 pass over 15 yards. Hes got a good run game going, which is keeping the dline off him and he has 10 minutes to throw. I could hit a wide open receiver with that much time. Its kind of like claiming Colorado has arrived; the body of work isnt there yet

The more apparent issue is he just locks on to his first read. Sometimes for 3-5 seconds. Fortunately for Oregon State SJSU sucks and his first read has been wide open for most of the game.

He's fine when throwing to wide open receivers. OSU seems to be getting them open. Wait till he has to throw with timing or throw guys open. He'll probably do well there with the scheme but he is not NFL material IMO

This is my point exactly. He is going to exposed badly during conference play if he doesn't improve his footwork and ability to read the field. He just locks on to his first read and let's it rip. Which is often time not even a spiral and doesn't hit the receiver in stride.

Put all of your last season dismay aside and take off the orange glasss… What are y’all smoking. He went 20/25 for 239 yards and FIVE TD. Three in the air and two on the ground and no INT. If a QB did that here we’d all be salivating.

We WERE salivating last season. Remember when everyone, yes EVERYONE, was celebrating him after the Wake Forest game? That includes me. I thought he had finally gotten over whatever blocks and hurdles had been holding him back. After that 350+ at WF, his highest passing total was 233 yards against Miami. Remember, that's with a coordinator that refused to lean on Shipley and Mafah. The fewest attempts he had after WF was 21, and that was against 'Cuse when he didn't finish the game. Last year was a bad combination of a QB that didn't believe in the system and an OC that wouldn't lean on the running game.
I remember a clip of Dabo talking about how he had a person keep up with how long it was between Spiller touches. Where was that dude last season for Shipley and Mafah?
DJ is a quality human being. He's just not a high caliber QB. That's OK. We don't know if Klubnik is a great QB, yet. I KNOW that the team felt completely different once he was on the field against UNC. Keep in mind UNC had 17 sacks last year. DJ wasn't under duress when he skipped those 3 passes.

Sometimes several things can be true at once. FSU and Colorado have obviously improved, while DJ seems to more or less be the same player he was at Clemson: throws uncatchable passes (rarely a spiral and poor ball placement), poor footwork and pocket presence, and tendency to lock on to his first read.
DJ also put up great stats for some

His deficiencies were still obvious, as they were yesterday.
If Oregon St. can run the ball and give him 3-5 seconds in the pocket, he will obviously put up good #s. If not, he is going to struggle much like we saw at Clemson.

Looks like he did at Clemson. Stays on first read. Accuracy and foot work is lacking. Oregon State was much better than a weak San Jose St. He had plenty of open receivers to throw towards.
I hope he does well, but he continues to play like he did at Clemson. A few bright spots here and there, but very inconsistent
