I continue to believe that recruiting talented laden HS player and developing their skills is more suitable to fit the character of our program than selection of those who are looking for a bigger paycheck every year.

It delights me that players are now being compensated rewarded for their contributions to Clemson sports since I believe the character of our recruits and prospects yield a great factor in maintaining our fans' desires to be considered morally exceptional. I think even the naysayers feel that way too.

I believe some may overlook the benefits of having players with high caliper ethics and elevated moral standards. One of the benefits of our university and fans is that our players give it all they have toward schoolwork, practices during the season and in the off season.

I think the bond between our guys is founded on something more important than winning a game. Imo, the game performance is the obligation they have to honor their coaches, teammates and fans.

I don't know there was a time in my 4 decades of belonging to Clemson that have pleased me more.

I’ll be interested in your attitude toward NIL contracts in about 10 years if Clemson doesn’t get an influx of support from wealthy supporters. Make no mistake about it, young students athletes that we recruit are not oblivious to the life changing benefits of, for example, a $2 million NIL available from another program versus “only” a $1 million deal from Clemson. There isn’t a group of exceptional character high school student athletes that would reject lucrative NIL contracts versus a group of high school student athletes with less character that would accept lucrative NIL contracts. It’s just not that simple. Either we find the kind of money other programs have or we risk being unable to recruit exceptionally talented high school student athletes.

The "recruit and develop" model isnt going to be sustainable long term

Some other program is going to come and buy those kids you so generously developed for them.

And what about sports like baseball, soccer, softball, track, tennis, golf and lacrosse that don’t get full scholarships. Wow, how we have raised the bar of equality.
All that has happened is the have’s; have more and the have not’s have the same raw deal.
