can get his bill introduced into the senate and passes. The previous chairman of the senate a democrat would never allow his bill to be introduced to the senate. I’m not sure of its details but it would on a federal level put common sense back into college sports. The fed will have to take over as each state is going to look out for its own state universities. Some states such as Georgia have passed a law to allow nil in their high schools. There are players transferring to the state of Georgia for their high school football with I’m sure Georgia supporters using nil locally to direct these players to Georgia. We don’t have any idea of all the crap going on to buy players and teams during this time. Ellison, the owner of Oracle(Michigan) and Owner of Nike(Oregon) are billionaires competing against each other thru college football. Who are the Clemson billionaires? I dont think we have any. Iptay has always been kept up by the little guy(started as $10 per year). Unless federal intervention the sport will come down to the billionaires and millions playground.

Like most fans, I'm very disappointed in the current status quo of college athletics. Rich sponsors are using their money via collectives to effectively buy players and teams, so it's a case of the haves vs the have-nots. It makes for an uneven playing field, there's no argument there. Schools with collectives or other 3rd party interests are going to get the better players.

Bluff is correct in some of the things he posts. Due to various legal proceedings, it is unlawful to tell a college athlete that he cannot make money of of his NIL. The only thing the NCAA has been able to keep a reign on is that schools cannot directly play players - yet. I understand this will change in June 2025 when revenue sharing is introduced, but that will not end NIL deals. NIL is between the player and a 3rd party separate from the university. With that being said, it would be naïve to think that schools aren't involved in the NIL deals. They just can't be publicly or directly involved openly.

With NIL being technically a deal with the player and a third party, the school itself has no function in the deal and nothing can be done at the school level regarding those deals. It's akin to a player getting a job at some local business to make some extra money to offset what he gets on scholarship. Granted, for considerably more money and less work, but that's technically what an NIL deal is. The 3rd party offers to pay the player in exchange for their NIL, which can be ads, commercials, photo ops, etc... or even nothing at all, just a "promise to appear when asked".

I don't know what kind of legislation Tuberville could introduce that would be able to change this model. It would be like trying to regulate what jobs any citizen can and cannot apply for. If the employer (NIL Collective) wants to grossly overpay an employee (player) relative to their services and worth, they can. No law can change that that will stand up to judicial review.

About the only thing that's going to settle down the wild wild west of NIL is for the sponsors of these collectives getting tired of putting our millions every year for no return. Only 1 team per year wins the championship, and even if your team does win, you don't get a financial return on your investment.

If Oregon wins it all this year, will they still have access to as much Nike money to win another? How many more? This is a bubble that's bound to pop eventually.
