The OBVIOUS elephant in the room

Not the defense, not the transfer portal…

IT IS THE HORRIFIC OFFENSE that’s been the repeat now for 3 years; until we get things going it will NOT change….

1. Vertical passing game(not checkdowns, or passes on the flat)
2. Quick backs with ability to make people miss and break away speed (ETIENNE type)

PS: and I cannot stress the vertical pass g game enough

I’m not buying the part about the QB. Cade was a very elite prospect. He could’ve gone anywhere and chose Clemson. It’s the scheme and coaching. The offense simply does not function. Hard to throw the ball down the field if nobody’s open and the safeties are standing in your passing lanes

Highly rated HS QB does not equal high performer College QB

As we all know, DJU didn’t live up to his 5* HS billing. Clemson coaching wasn’t the problem; he actually improved considerably between beginning of 2021 to second half of 2022. Against cream puff PAC 12 defenses and out of conference schedule, DJU looked good. Now that he’s back 8n the ACC, he looks pretty good … about how he looked with us in second half of 2022 … in his game last week as FSU QB in the loss to GA Tech.

CK2 is another college QB who has not lived up to his 5* HS billing. CK2 showed in his limited playing time in 2022 that he had arm quality limitations. In 2023, he showed that he had major decision making problems to overcome. By late 2023, CK2 had demonstrated much improvement in his decision making; clearly good coaching had improved his throwing ability + decision making. There is no amount of coaching that can transform CK2’s arm into DW4 or TL16 or TB10 type arm. Just ain’t happening. Yesterday’s game, to me, showed that CK2’s decisions are still improving. Looking past his first play of the game (DJU-esque bad toss to Mafah), I thought his throws were smart and within his arm talent limitations. Let’s be real here. Unless our D plays up to 2018 standards, we’re not going to beat UGA / Bama / Ile Miss / OH State / TX type teams. We are not going to be able to score abundant points against elite defenses. We are going to have to have our defense win those games.

(*). What we need from our offense is to not LOSE games. What we need is for our FG and Special Teams units to win games (and not lose them, as happened in first half of last year).

(*). I think we are in track to have an offense that doesn’t lose games (pik six / fumble TDs) this year. An offense that won’t give away TDs by fumbling inside the 5 yard line.

Get rid of Tyler Grisham and do whatever it takes to get Jeff Scott back to coaching the WR’s

Now off to same start for fourth year (with our Coaches essentially telling us to deny our observations and recognition of the same throughout)

How about the scholarship receivers who cannot contribute? Some are perennially hurt and others can’t line up correctly after 3 years in the program. In this day and age, it’s time to show them the door and get some dudes who can play.

There is not elephant in the room. There is a pack of laughing hyenas in the room. One name offense, one named portal, one named friends and family plan, one named seniors always play and one named awe shucks.

Nothing wrong with our running backs. Martha had 59 yards on 16 carries vs a very good defense. Nothing wrong w that.

I agree, all of our problems derive from the complete absence of a vertical passing game.

If we had an offense, they could hold the ball and score occasionally, dogs would’ve had less time of possession very likely at at least one less score. In addition, if our defense is on the field less maybe we’re less tired maybe dogs would’ve had 14 fewer points. Who knows, what if. What if.

Vertical passing game opens up the short passing game. Right now it’s pretty easy to defend Clemson offense. Every defense just loads the box plays up at the line of scrimmage. Easy money, watch what App State does. They’re just gonna play our receivers tight at the line of scrimmage. Maybe they play 5 yards off at most. No matter how much less talent they have, if they load guys up at the line of scrimmage and don’t play off our WRs and if Cade can’t complete passes consistently beyond 10 yards, then App state will hold us to 21 or 24 points. And I don’t care how good G5 they are, we should put more than 40 points on these guys.
