The night Elvis died

I was at the Hardees on Beaties Ford Rd with a radio and ear phones to pass the time. (TBalm will like that).
They paid me to hang around, even after closing to keep them safe as they cleaned.

Funny thing is the next door Wendy's guys got robbed.
I had no clue as they wore masks.

I got a call from a prison guard who had read a letter. They were bragging to this criminal as to their job.
I rounded them up. One was the grandson of an important lawyer/judge who threatened me with doom.

Me and my buddy took my john boat and searched with a magnet for where they threw the shot gun off the Buster Boyd Bridge. It was too much work, we gave up and went fishing.

I saw that eye-opening movie "One Flew Over The Coo-Coo Nest" with JackN (I was not "with" him personally since he was in the movie)..

But this post by you has my eyes wide open for a Coo-Coo that lives near some frog filled water..

YOU!

That area of Charlotte was dangerous. To not be seen as racist chains put in a store.
I also worked part time at the 7-11 they put there and the NCNB Bank.

All I had to do was hang around, all I ate was free.
I knew most of the ### holes as I worked that area every day for years. They knew me -- that fact is important as it kept me safe.
Word would spread, and the chance of me being attacked was near zero.

I worked Pikes Drugs for years and no one even attempted a burglary there as every other store in the strip mall was attacked.

We all earned our living in different ways.

That’s so weird. I remember this one night when Elvis and I robbed a Wendy’s off of Beaties Ford Rd. Elvis got pretty scared and wound up faking his death, which turned out to be a great alibi. I thought I might get caught when I started doing the SNL bits, but no one ever showed up.

My parents were on their way to a convention in Memphis the scheduled the weekend after he passed.
Really killed the mood for them.
A lot of celebrities came to town so they saw a lot of others stars.
But Elvis is who they wanted to see.
The radio DJ would say “The King is Dead” after every song
In a strange spooky voice
I started HS the week or so after parents got back from the trip.
Then not too long after that Lynyrd Skynyrd crashed leaving a show in Greenville I think Feb

I remember people crying like they lost their brother or something. I just thought that was the stupidest thing.

I'm not sure I would have cried as much as I did over John Lennon, except I had been up all night cramming for my calculus exam. Calculus made me cry a lot that first semester.

I did not start this thread to just help us remember Elvis, just thinking back on when I had to literally fight to survive.
My family medical bills were off the chart - no one could pay that.
I worked endless jobs to make "payments" so the best of care would be there
It always was.
I was blessed.

Nope. "The Day the Music Died" was February 3, 1959 - when a plane carrying Richie Valens and J.P. Richardson (AKA "The Big Bopper") went down near Clear Lake, Iowa - an event memorialized by Don McLean in "American Pie":

I was at Fort Stewart with my National Guard unit for annual training. One of the men went to the Battery Commander and asked for two days leave to go to his uncle's funeral. When asked who his uncle was he replied, "Elvis." He did not get leave.

One was working a residency in the ER when MFD brought Elvis in.

The other was the assistant Shelby County ME who assisted in the autopsy.
