Clemson vs. Louisville prediction: Can the Cardinals keep it close?

No. 2 Clemson enters Saturday’s game against Louisville as a heavy favorite. How heavy? The 39-point spread stands as the largest-ever point spread for the Tigers in an ACC game, breaking the 36 set against Duke back in 2000. Full Story »

Good to see Nikki decided to quit calling it in and make a real prediction for the first time in 3 weeks.

BC had 7 sacks on their QB. This is going to get UGLY. I expect Clemson to get in the double digits in sacks and possibly break the school record in this one. Louisville cannot run the ball on average teams the DL will get all the pressure they need to get to 10 sacks without any Blitz's. Louisville gave up 56 points to Wake. I suspect ETN breaks 1000 yards on the year and TL to have over 300 yards passing by halftime. My score prediction is 63 to 6. Louisville will get 2 late FG's.

Nice break down as usual but I dont see us scoring only 52 points. I see high 60's and possibly even breaking the 70 mark. This game will be over before it starts. GO TIGERS!!!!!!!

They've downgraded the seating capacity since students don't fill up the hill any longer.

Or is it some sort of wacky attendance prediction?

Coincidentally, Doak Campbell holds 79,560...

Perhaps a leftover from last week's update?

Looking at prices on Stubhub there’s gonna be a lot of empty seats before kickoff, never mind by the start of the 4th quarter.

The Hill: What happened in 1970-71 seasons?

Nov 2, 2018, 2:47 PM

The article say, “The Tigers have run down The Hill prior to every home game since 1942 with exception of the 1970-71 seasons, the first four games of 1972 and the first game of 1973.”

Can anyone explain to those of us who are younger why the team didn’t run down the hill during those seasons?

"When Hootie Ingram succeeded Howard as head coach prior to the 1970 season, Ingram decided that the team would make its final entrance on the field out of the dressing room in the west end zone. In all home games in 1970 and 1971 and the first four of 1972 when the Tigers did not run down the hill, their record was 6-9. The team decided it wanted to come down the hill once prior to the South Carolina game in 1972. The result, in a cold, freezing rain, was a 7-6 victory when Jimmy Williamson knocked down a two-point conversion attempt which preserved the win.

https://www.tigernet.com/football/history/hill.jsp

Coach Ingram liked the idea and then worked with Anderson on the plan to bring the team around the stadium on busses to the top of the hill just before kickoff. Clemson had not run down the hill since 1969. Prior to the 1970 season, Clemson’s locker room moved from Fike Fieldhouse to the West endzone of the stadium, so there was no longer a need to run down the hill to get to the field.

When Clemson had run down the hill from 1942-69, it was not quite as celebrated because the team did that entrance for pregame warmups, over an hour prior to the game. The pregame tradition did not occur just minutes before kickoff until that 1972 South Carolina game, and that important aspect of the tradition was Anderson’s idea.

Clemson went on to beat South Carolina, 7-6, that rainy afternoon. The game ended with South Carolina attempting a long field goal. Anderson caught the ball just short of the goal line and took a knee. Fittingly the ball was in his hands as the final seconds of his career ended.
