we only targeted the WRs SIX times...Not in a quarter...not in a half...an entire game where we only threw the ball to the WRs SIX times...He was a big recruit, he has a limited window to audition for the next level...Why would he, or anybody with pro aspirations, waste it in an offense that doesn't even attempt to get their position group the ball?

Which game?
Fact remains, we don't call a ton of downfield stuff because,
1. The QB is not good at buying time in the pocket to allow plays to develop
2. The QB us not good at seeing the field if his primary WR isn't WIDE open.
3. The QB has accuracy and decision making issues. Sometimes a 1:1, 50/50 is the directed call, and he still holds it. When he does throw it, whether it 50/50 or wide open, he often has trouble getting it on target. For example, even on directed 50/50 balls, when he's told to throw it and actually does, he's more often than not putting it somewhere where the WR can make a play.
Hence we've scaled things back to emphasize TEs and short passes to increase efficiency.
Yet again, we don't have a scheme or playcalling issue. It's not that we don't sometimes try to stretch the field. The problem arises with execution at the most important position on the field.

As you already know he left back in September, and we did see what he could do here. He was a good backup who stepped in when our receiving corp was banged up. He did a decent job but was passed up on the depth chart once the corp was healthy.

We really need to examine the WR coach. As bad as the WR's have played this year, you mean to tell me this kid could not hit the field. Come on man! It seems likes its becoming a popularity contest with the coaches for playing time (just see DJ as an example) and not talent.

He saw what was coming. Another year of playing with a QB who can't identify (quick enough) open receivers or hit them often enough when they are open.
Why ruin your reputation with coaches talking about poor receiver play (dropped passes) instead of poor QB play.....

Wish him luck - so much to unpack here.
Unfortunately our offense will probably make the UNC defense look like the 85 Bears, like we do everyone else, but hopefully we can get the W and maybe sort things out before the Orange Bowl which will take a much improved effort from us to be competitive.
No matter what, a huge off-season is in store for us as we either turn things around or continue the slide from elite status.

He’s a quitter. Quit on team when they needed him most. Sure we all understand his frustration offensively it’s a shell of probably what he expected to be a part of but no excuse to quit in middle of season.
Unfortunately next adversity will be even easier for him to quit.
