much like Red Parker did at Clemson many years ago with Charley Pell. Both will probably live to regret those actions, I know Red Parker did. Pell literally stole his job.

I heard a different story on Red and Charlie. Red was telling everyone at a basketball game that he was being or had been fired and the BOT felt they had no other choice. I always felt that Red got caught in a culture change coming from Ark A&M and The Citadel, both military schools, where he didn't have to worry as much about discipline and what players were doing in studies and free times. The 70's ushered in a new freedom that caught him off guard. His post 1974 recruiting class was the basis of Clemson's resurgence by the time they were Jrs and Seniors.

In 1983 or 84, I was visiting Delta State and working with their football team. I went out to dinner with an assistant coach and when he found out that I graduated from Clemson, he was happy to tell me Red’s account of his firing. Let’s just say that he felt Pell stabbed him in the back and played a large role in his being let go

The Duke OL commitment is average. Not bad, not great, and nowhere near the second best commitment we would have. Not close

Owens is a gamble.
If he loses a bunch of weight, then he will be really good.
As is well chronicled, there are many overweight HS players that simply cannot endure the lifestyle change that must first take place for them to lose the lard.
Hoping for Z.Owens and the entire team that Z.Owens is among the minority of overweight prospects that makes (and sticks with) the commitment to lose that excess weight.

The Clemson staff did a pretty good job getting Jackson Carmen to where his weight needed to be. If the kid wants it, Clemson will help him make it happen.
