The Bryan Bresee era

Has been largely disappointing. He and TL16 share a former #1 recruit status but their Clemson careers have been remarkably different.
Am I the only one who thinks he'd benefit from an extra year or will NFL teams not care about his college production and injury issues?

disappointing…yes
Will the NFL care. Heck no. I wouldn’t be surprised if Houston takes him 1st overall.
Henry Thomas Murphy have all had less than stellar seasons. That front four should have lead nation in tfls/sacks. They were good, but not not nearly as good as they should have been

Only disagree on KJ. He’s had a great year and IMO really improved his draft status over what it would have been last year. And I think his numbers would have been even better if the others had played better as well.

Agree with you as far as KJ having a great year.
I can't think of anyone else on our entire team who had played his 4 years after end of 2021 season, but chose to come back for a fifth year, who has improved as much as KJ.
KJ was good last year; this year he has been a star. If he went NFL last year, he'd have been a low round draft pick at best. He darn well could be a 2nd or 3rd round pick in the upcoming NFL draft.

Re: The Bryan Bresee - Myles Murphy

Myles Murphy's season is better than it may seem to most of us.
Clemson's D-front has had a lot of 3 down linemen schemes. In this array, M.Murphy is more of a D-tackle than a D-end.
Furthermore, in the 3 down lineman scheme, it is much easier to double team the outside D-Tackle than it is when there is a 4 man front.
D-Tackles almost never have the sack and TFL totals as the D-Ends.
My guess is that NFL scouts recognize this and view his (team leading sack total and other stats) as being impressive.
If M.Murphy kills it at the combine, then I darn sure could see him as a top 20 draft pick.

My concern is DJ will be back. Hope not. But with no OC and another year of DJ would crumble this program

Disappointing due to illness injury and unfortunately sister’s illness and untimely death.

I don’t think the nfl will care enough to make it wise for him to come back one more year. His measurables at the combine should be off the charts.

IMO Bresee will come back next year...

Due to no fault of his own (injury, sister's death, illness) he has missed more games in the last 2 years than he has played. I just don't think he has enough film to be a convincing first round selection in the NFL draft at this point.
Unlike a lot of college players, Bresee definitely has first round draft potential - he's just got to get it on film in more than a few flashes where he was available to play. Coming back for a senior year where he plays a full season where he is in good football shape would surely raise his draft stock to a solid first round pick.

I think that the real question for BB is whether the 'risk it all' approach of playing another year in college in the hope (but not the assurance) of being a 'Day 1' draft pick is worth risking the loss of the sure 'get it now' money (but which is also lesser money) from being a 'Day 2' NFL draftee (maybe a 3rd or 4th round draft pick).
If you (not just Tabby, but any responder) were BB, then which would you choose?

Him and XT would benefit 1 more year, they take being injury prone very seriously in the NFL. He may still go late first or early 2nd, but nothing is guaranteed. I mean Wilkins and big Dex looked like Top 10 picks and both went in the middle 1st rd. I think Murphy will go top 10 and then maybe Simpson in the middle of the 1st. I've seen to many top guys fall a great deal due to injury...look at Justyn Ross for example. NFL teams want to see production and durability more than anything. Bresee thus far has very lil of both.

I mean the poor guy has been given one of the worst dice rolls you could possibly have in a college career. I feel so bad for him because he doesn't deserve all the bad things that has happened to him specifically and his family as a whole. I hope he makes the best decision for himself whatever that may be. I do know one thing, that man needs every ounce of support and love we can possibly give him because he deserves that and has earned it at the very least.

Like the boss in the baseball movie said, "Nobody saw this? Gentry's got potential but he's not a # 1 pick". He certainly has had a tough personal and injury time football year. I think he would have to really get in shape and show out at the combine to be a # 1 pick. Our guys are not dominating these ACC OL, and an NFL OL are a different level of dudes.

ACC “refs” allowing everyone to hold our D line as much as they want doesn’t help any.

but it seems to me that the things that give him an advantage in college and make him stand out, will be greatly mitigated as a D-Lineman at the next level.

I expect a lot of recruits to start avoiding Clemson because they've totally lacked any development except at Running Back (which is like pulling teeth for them to actually use in a game).
Why go to Clemson and have your game time eaten up by walk-ons and coaches' sons just because they've been there longer?

And all of the otherwise-Clemson recruits will end up in Columbia playing for your beloved Gamecocks.

Him and Murphy are still projected to go top 15 at worst.
Had I not seen the draft projections, I wouldn't have guessed it but sometimes measurables and potential are worth more to NFL teams than stats or fan perception.

At least the NFL will know he is capable of playing 80+ snaps a game. At Houston he will feel right at home playing defense for a team with a putrid offense.

Bresee needs to prove he can stay on the field. No one is investing a 1st rd pick on a guy with no numbers a no snaps.
None of these guys are day 1 picks. At best 3rd round the conversation starts. Day 3 picks who will need to play special teams before any meaningful NFL snaps.

He definitely has to come back if wants to play in nfl—all our ex D lineman who are successful in NFL all did final year. Christian Wilkins Dexter Lawrence DJ Reader Grady Jarrett. They all had better 3 years than Bresee and came back he needs to do the same

There is no benefit for BB to stay because...
Nov 29, 2022, 7:28 PM
|
|
he's going to be drafted in the 1st round in April.
Seems like there are many here who want to rationalize why it's in Bresee's best interest to return, but none of it holds up.
Not that it's Clemson's fault, but his time in college has been very difficult and it makes more sense he'd want to move on before something else bad happens.
