The are mixed feelings among the fans regarding Tony Elliot. I met him

and had the chance to spend about 30 minutes with him and Coach Streeter. These are two men of integrity, honesty and character. They are men of faith who have their priorities in order. Both coaches have made many great contributions to Clemson. They have had a very positive impact on so many players who have gone out to become great ambassador’s for Clemson University.
With all that said, I hope that Tony does not take the job at Duke. IMO it would a bad move for any first time HC. Duke is an average to occasionally above average team. Virginia would be a much better opportunity for TE. I would hate to see Tony struggle at Duke the get fired. You Just cannot win consistently at Duke.
Prayers for Coach Elliot as he makes decisions about his coaching future. Best to Tony and his family as he decides his coaching future.

There are only mixed feelings with fans that refuse to admit we got beat because we were simple shorthanded and inexperienced. Where have we heard that we really didn't get beat before?

Look at the offense this year, then ask yourself would Saban retain any bit of it. That’s what a Clemson fan should do. His character or the fact you ACTUALLY talked to him means nothing after this season.

We have had 1 season of adversity and immediately it’s all on Tony Elliot. What happened to the past several years of success Clemson experienced. I guess Tony had no part in that. It sad that coaches are being thrown under the bus when the team goes through a difficult season.
You have to consider CoVid, introducing NIL and the transfer portal which have had a negative affect on several teams including Clemson.
How would you like to be a part of 10 years of excellent work. Then you have an off year which cost you your job?? Is it fair to judge you based on 1 bad year out of 11 years which include 10 years of success??
Tony Elliot is being judged based on 1 year full of adversity including injuries, transfers a QB who have his best while he is dealing with personal issues with in his family, injuries, WR’s who dropped catchable passes and injuries to the OL. Coach Elliot is being blamed for all of our offensive issues this year which I think is totally unfair. He is not fumbling the ball, missing blocks, or dropping passes. Then throw in some bad calls.
I think Tony deserves less criticism for the offensive troubles this year and should be given more credit for Clemson’s successes. Especially the last 2 games. I am not saying Tony should be held total blameless for the offensive struggles this year. I just think he is being held accountable for more than his share for this year’s offensive issues.

With all due respect, Tony has always struggled as a game planner and play caller. He does not help scheme receivers open. It was all hero ball with go routes and WR screens before. He had 2 generational QBs and a generational running back to cover for him.
I think he is a great Clemson man, but you cannot have a performance like we did this season. Tony may actually be a better HC than a coordinator to be honest.

What do you mean he doesn't scheme receivers open??

Our passing offense has been prolific since Tony became playcaller.
Now I know you're going to say something about "generational qbs" and how players made a coach look good for 6 years, but the fact of the matter is lots of teams have same or better talent and depth, and you don't see anyone other than one team who has accomplished more than us. And I'll be darned if I haven't seen tons of open guys over those 6 years, including last year - when we had the best passing offense in program history.

what we need are men of character like these two, but who also are good at coaching, helping football players get better, not worse, at playing football.
it's not an either or. we need both.

Well, I have to admit, I hope he stays here. At least one more year. Have to give props to him for switching up the personnel grouping in the last several games of the season.
Thanks to @drorange09012017 for explaining how that can give us something to build on in the spring.

Tony Elliot is a top notch human being

I don’t think anybody here would question his integrity as a man. Super guy
Our offense has never come out of the gate humming. We’re just not consistent enough in so many ways on offense.
There’s a reason no other electrical engineers are calling plays. Engineers over think things.. paralysis by analysis
I think he’ll be a good head coach.
I want Briles to come in here and show you people what a cut throat offensive system can do with our talent. We might actually have a Heo’s man winner if our offense didn’t limp into games every September.

He was a clutch WR for us back in the day while earning an Engineering degree at the same time. Never got into trouble and always represented us well. This year was not his best as coordinator, but he is a Clemson man and I refuse to throw him under the bus.

vice versa. No Clemson fan that I'm aware of has ever questioned TE the person. I think almost everyone would agree he's a great and hardworking person of integrity. I think TE will build an excellent culture somewhere, much like Dabo did for us. For that reason I think he'll be a fine HC somewhere and I hope he gets the chance this year. Personally, I'd hope for UVA. Their team is probably a better landing spot than Duke, but either is still a P5 opportunity.

I think people like TE are very high character and overall great for the program. My biggest beef, and maybe it isn't really true, was that it seemed like TE milked the playbook of Chad Morris without really updating our plans to fit the adapting defensive schemes of our competition. Case in point, BV was constantly re-engineering what he did on defense to keep up with the times and I just feel like TE's biggest failure was not doing the same. We relied exclusively on talent to overcome an aging scheme and got away with it for several years before it kind of caught up with us. Certainly, injuries and transfers and the inexperience on offense this year contributed. It was like the perfect storm hit on offense and we simply had no answers. Unfortunately, we also wore our defense out and injuries set in because we had too many 3 and outs and the defense spent way too much time on the field.
Maybe we found something late in the season to build on. The question is whether or not TE is the right coach to take us into the future and get it fixed. He has earned the opportunity but I'm OK with bringing in some new blood if he moves on. I certainly don't feel the same about BV. That is a big loss that will take some time to get over.

Elliot could never in his career even come up with the spread tempo attack first to the corners and then to the middle into the secondary once UGA got tired like Saban did Saturday night. Nice guy with some good personal qualities but worthy of running one of the highest profile football programs in the country? He is limited and his stock dropped this year, and he needs to take anything he can get and make some $$ if he can.

I agree, he could have left last year and gone anywhere. Oklahoma flew in to see Venables. Tony is having to drive to Duke. Another year like last year and he might not even have an OC position here

He doesn’t need to win consistently at Duke. He really just needs to stabilize the program in year 1 and somehow get to .500 by year 2.
If he can get 7 wins in year 3, he’ll parlay that into a top 25 gig.

With a quarterback as bad as DJ, the lack of playmakers at WR and new running backs I'm not sure anyone knows right now how good Elliot is. If we still had Deshaun, Lawrence, Tajh or even Bryant we probably wouldn't be complaining right now. Cade could be the guy that makes everything work.
