And rightfully so.
The call on the field was a TD. Personally, I couldn't tell if he caught it or not but the refs who already showed a home team bias called it a TD.
Official ACC explanation was that an out of bounds defender dislodged the ball before the receiver went down. The problem with that is that as soon as the receiver's foot hits the ground inside the endzone with control of the ball it's a TD. Play over. No need to go to the ground with control of the ball.

I've always wondered since a play field this one is the last play and nothing else matters to impact the final score other than the call by the refs if it's determined days later they actually got the final call wrong, even replay, could the conference award the win to the other team?

You must still have control of the ball on the way to the ground.
The same as if you tap your foot in-bounds making a play and subsequently run out of bounds…you would need to show control of the ball all the way through the play (to include the out of bounds steps). You can’t just have 2 hands on the ball with 1 foot in-bounds and then be juggling it during additional steps out of bounds. That’s not control.

The call on the field was a TD. The review team appeared to agree that he controlled the ball with his foot on the ground. I've seen TD's upheld on review because the ball was still in the runner's flat palm with the nose across the plane for a split second before a defender batted it out of bounds.
I'm not even saying he caught the ball. I'm saying there was no indisputable evidence to overturn the call.

The referee on Friday for VT vs Miami was none other than Jerry Margolis, the referee in the "8-lateral Miami TD" against duke. Jerry and his crew were suspended for two games because of the way they botched that call. I guess nothing has changed. It doesn't get any worse than ACC officiating.

I hear you on the example—possession has to occur before going out of bounds. But possession doesn't have to occur before going to the ground. Similar to the player who caught it on his back, he was on the ground and had until the ball hit the ground to get possession. He nor the ball were in that position.
If the out of bounds defender jarred it loose, it had to be loosened from a state of control. The ball was on top of him and within his arms. Plenty of room to argue “how tight” his grip was. I can’t add much there. But the endzone only requires fractions of a second of possession and I think he had that much before the other guy’s arm did anything. Kind of reminds me of catches where two players are wrapped up on a catch and they give it to the offensive player.

That was a TD. VT was robbed by the so-called experts in the booth. Because "miami" is now the ACC's precious. It's that simple. They hate Clemson.
We need to LEAVE this joke of a conference ASAP

Agree, Tobacco Road is taking their talent to the U. The phantom hold also was a difference maker, more time would have been on the clock.

The body language of the ref making the replay call was obvious he was unsure of the call and got off the field immediately. I agree, there was no evidence to overturn the call. Too many bodies. The call on the field should have stood. Mighty fishy to me.

What often comes to my mind with respect to media experts is "Who are you going to believe? 'Media Experts' or your own lying eyes."
If you are listening to a talking head on radio or TV, you very often have to decide if you are going to believe what you know to be true or what some biased talking head says.
You do know that FOX, CNN and MSNBC all employ a lot of media experts, don't you?

I don’t know what “hating Clemson” has to do with it. Miami losing to a 2-2 team who already lost to Vandy would not be good for Clemson. Weakening the already pitiful look of the ACC is not good for us ever.

I fell asleep watching last night, so I went back on my dvr this morning.
I could see #9 for VT catch the ball and bring it down. His foot and then his butt landed in the end zone.
The ball appeared to be loose at #9's belly, so I don't know how or why they called a TD. The receiver may have shown control with a hand on the ball before the TD call. It was hard to tell from replay.
Any action by UM to break up the pass or dislodge the ball looked like it happened after #9 came down with the catch. Not sure how they saw enough to overturn.
It's good for us that Miami won, since we would want to beat the highest-ranked opponent possible in the ACCCG if that happens.

They gave that game to Miami. They are terrible in Clemson not calling pass interference on each team few easy calls. They almost as terrible as SEC officials that hasnt called pass interference in over 10 seasons.

The crew at Clemson Saturday night were incompetent. To much looking at each other rather than making a calll. That shows incompetence The woman ref was a joke. Not because she’s a female but because she didn’t know what she was doing but it’s necessary to have her there Lol but not funny. VT got politically screwed quite evident. Sad part is we have to accept it
