that Clemson missed out on some talent from the transfer portal that definitively had the potential to help us greatly - namely at wide receiver. Would we have gotten all of the guys we wanted, or any of them? We’ll never know because WE DIDN’T EVEN TRY. This is a self-inflicted wound on the Clemson football program and the blame for it falls squarely on one man. Most coaches earning $10M/year have accomplished a lot to make that kind of salary, and ours certainly has. But that kinda money is also what I call “No BS Money”; when you make $10M/year you don’t get a pass for those failures. He screwed up. He needs to own it and change it - now.

However....like trying to get a woman....they have to want you too. Dabo said that they weren't interested in coming to Clemson.
You can offer all you want..... Clemson can offer all they want......but if they ain't interested they ain't interested. Same goes for flat out recruiting kids out of high school.

So we are able to attract elite recruits to Clemson, but can't find anybody that would come here in the transfer portal. Face it, we really aren't trying.
I don't think that the transfer portal is the answer to all of our problems, but using it, on occasion, would be a small step in the right direction.

that leads you to believe that he offered any portal players? I’m basing my assumptions on what Dabo has said and the fact that lesser programs were able to get multiple portal transfers who could have helped us.

made DJ a better QB. When you consistently dont see the field, when you’re too flat footed to buy time, and when you’re wildly inconsistent with accuracy…
It wouldn’t have changed anything about the DJ era.
The issue this year has been unforced errors by the QB and RBs. The losses had NOTHING to fo with the portal.

The point is that the players Dabo signed WERE NOT AS TALENTED AS SOME THAT HE COULD HAVE GOTTEN FROM TRANSFERS. The receiver at UNC who transferred there from Kent State, the FSU receiver who toasted our DB in OT… both would have been better than ANYONE who has played this year. The fact that HAMP GREENE is getting playing time against teams other than Charleston Southern and Florida Atlantic says it all. HE COULD HAVE USED AN AVAILABLE RESOURCE, AND HE DIDN’T!!! Rationalize it away, excuse it if you want, sling childish insults all you want. You’re still defending the indefensible.

We don’t give anyone any guaranteed NIL money, we use it to retain our current players and make them earn it. Portal players are mostly 20-22+ year olds men who have different priorities and perspectives since they’ve gone through HS recruiting and been in the business of college football for a couple years. We’ve offered more portal players than many of you realize, it’s just not publicly advertised like when a HS player gets an offer, portal players don’t make Twitter posts thanking teams for offers like HS kids do.

For the 500 thousandth time none of those transfers were coming to Clemson. They were already bought and paid for. Some of you live in la la land and have no idea what you are talking about. We don't just waltz into the portal and go shopping unless we have some cash. Let it go.

and realize Dabo is going to do it his way. And most people would admit, the results have been really good since he has been head coach. All of this whining about the transfer portal never addresses the fact the portal is a two-way street. The player has to want to come to Clemson and Clemson has to have a desire to add the player.

Transfers work when you have holes in scholarships.
Ohio state, Bama, etc don’t bring in but a couple over the past few years.
You can’t hold back scholarships just in case a player from another school is willing to come. If you find a good high school player, you take them. If you don’t, you might have a hole. Then you use it. Dabo has gotten who he wanted. Sure, some have not progressed like we had hoped. That does not mean coaching is the problem. Sometimes, players peak in high school or as a freshman. It does not take but a couple to hurt the team, especially if they are at the same position.
