I have a friend who is in HR in a tech company. He informed me what a shame those visas are. It's just about cheap labor and the stock price generally. Cheap labor is the key.

Anybody saying different is FOS.
My company is doing it as hard and as fast as possible. I see the numbers and the reason.
One day, when private equity has r.aped every company for every dime they can take, moved all of the manufacturing to every 3rd world country, and then sold the carcass to the highest bidder, and we've sold out our tech jobs to the lowest paid graduate of the Mumbai School of Technology...I just wonder who is going to be left that can afford to buy the products that are being sold?
Once we're all replaced and we've lowered our standard of living to the the next 3rd world country...then what?

Can you give me 1 good reason to expand the number of H1B visas?
Why 5 years ago were they "very very bad for American workers", but now, they're a great idea?
What changed?

He would have no idea. Anyway, it's just a way for more cheap labor. They place ads offering jobs in junky parts of the country. Nobody takes them. They say they can't fill the job, hire an Indian for 30k instead of the 75k that was posted, work them to death with no overtime, tell them they will help them get a green card after 3 years which rarely works, and all the time knowing that the Indian person won't quit or talk back. If they quit they have 2 weeks to find another job or they have to go, so they just work hard for peanuts and are taken advantage of. Supposedly only about 5 or 10 percent of them are so talented where they are special and the rest Americans can do the job. Many of the Indians don't even have real degrees. Also, if the firms only wanted to get the great minds, they can go directly to the major universities and get them. They want a bunch of random though to do the cheap labor.

It’s because lots of the younger engineers/techies are lazy as #### and demand stupid high salaries that aren’t realistic. The labor pool sucks and has sucked for years. Everyone thinks they should be making $150k a year working 15 hours a week because that’s what they see on social media.

Look out for Rocket Labs, Neutron is set to have its first launch this fall, a competitor to Falcon Heavy. Intuitive Machines is about to put a lander on the moon in late Feb, that should be cool too. Big year for space.

Yes, salaries generally did rise after the end of the Gilded Age, particularly during the Progressive Era which followed, as labor reforms and increased government regulation led to better working conditions and higher wages for many workers, even though significant income inequality still persisted; however, it's important to remember that the "Gilded Age" itself saw some wage increases, just not at the same rate as the wealth accumulation of the very rich, resulting in a large income gap. Key points about salaries after the Gilded Age:
Progressive Era improvements: The period following the Gilded Age, known as the Progressive Era, saw a push for labor reforms that led to noticeable increases in wages for many workers.
Income inequality persisted: While wages did rise, the gap between the very wealthy and the working class remained large, even after the Gilded Age.
Industrialization impact: The rapid industrialization during the Gilded Age did contribute to some wage increases, but the benefits were not evenly distributed

If AI is going to be researching, creating and writing our arguments for us, then this place literally just became as pointless as it’s ever been.
B) I said wages almost doubled in the latter part of the 1800’s, and they did. That’s a stat that’s independent of “wealth inequality”. I’d I had to tie the two together though, I’d say “seems fair to me” if the Industrialists happened to become incredibly wealthy/wealthier while creating and operating industries that also increased the wages of those who were working for them.
If you asked Gemini about wage growth in the Industrial Revolution and it came back with some wage inequality crap as part of its answer, that tells me a ton about how Google has programmed it.

Essentially what you're saying is like telling the head of Toyota that, "hey, dropping the atomic bomb on Hiroshima ended up being a good thing for your business in the long run"
My guess is that the robber barons HAD to increase their pay rates due to the shear number of people that were dying in their factories.
And looking at your own graph, I don't exactly see a big pay jump after 1893, which is generally regarded as the end of the gilded age. I guess that couldn't have anything to with the mini depression we went into because of that time period, huh?
Srsly, I can't believe that I'm arguing why the gilded age and robber barons were bad for America. I wouldn't think anyone would ever have to do that. Millions of people were left homeless, hungry, and unemployed. But somehow that was good?

for altruistic reasons.
Bezo's penor rocket, Blue Origin:
In 2024, the U.S. Space Force awarded Blue Origin nearly $18 million for integration studies on its New Glenn launch vehicle. These studies assessed the vehicle's ability to launch national security payloads. The funding was part of the National Security Space Launch Phase 3 program, which is a multi-billion dollar procurement of launch services for national security satellites.
NASA funding In 2024, NASA awarded Blue Origin a $3.4 billion contract to build a lander for NASA's Artemis V mission. The Artemis V mission is scheduled for 2029 and will take astronauts to the moon.
Musk:
Taxpayer support for SpaceX comes from direct government contracts that are worth billions. According to USASpending.gov, the government database that tracks federal spending, SpaceX has signed contracts worth nearly $20 billion.

But Musk literally thinks he’s exploring the only path available in a rapidly shrinking window to ensure the survival of the human race. He may be getting insanely wealthy in the process, but it’s the very definition of altruism.

Mostly just Elon Musk.
He's been telling you who he is, and you're not listening. Every time he tells people to go eff their face, or that he wants cheap labor in the form of H1B Visa holders and lies about how American engineers are terrible, he tells you.
And have you been on twitter lately? It's one big ad for Onlyfans. Is that an improvement from what it was?
As far as has it crashed...I have no idea. I can stand the content on it long enough to stick aorund to see what its performance is.

Never mind that these space race billionaires employ a whole lot of people who in turn pay a lot of Government taxes on their wages while making technological advances that are a benefit to mankind. But I guess there's nothing quite like a good "tax the rich" trope to get that good old Bolshevik blood stirring...

I got to sit in a presentation from an astronaut who did 3 space walks. He did a Q&A afterwards and one of the questions was, what is he most excited about.
He said hands down, private players in the space race that are going to accelerate exploration faster than the government ever would be able to. He mentioned the catching of the booster and the spaceship blowing up and how private parties can say, wow we learned a lot and can try new things. The government could never take risks like that because they could not have failures.

Kind of makes me wonder when the rocket knowledge will be easy for the entire planet.

That is really cool looking. That would have been fascinating to have seen that live like they did not knowing.
