I woulda fired Coach Brownell last year. BB seems to have learned to balance his own recruits while recruiting the portal roster very well! Good job BB, Neff and the Tigers basketball team! Good luck in the ACC and NCAA Tournaments.

After impressevly rebounding from a embarrassing ACCT you would have fired him post Elite 8 appearance? Come on man....
Had you said the year prior maybe that might make some sense but you can't fire him after that NCAAT run.

I woulda fired him five years ago. I still believe he’s in the prove you can repeat recent success phase. He’s earned a few more years for sure. Fire him last year after an elite 8 run? No way. Let’s see some banners hanging in LittleJohn then I’m ready to crown him king!

Fired him coming out of the Covid mess? BTW he is 104-52 the last five years

3rd best winning % in the conference behind Duke and UNC since 2020. UVA and the great Tony Bennett, who quit, are 4th.
Really reaching here. Not shocked at all.

Agreed, I would've fired him around that time, too. The season before last I thought they were shafted out of the NCAA tournament and I would've given him another year after that which we all know how last season went. I'm happy to admit that I was wrong about Brownell after I soured on him. I will say that things have really changed due to his increased portal use. Prior to that I thought Brownell was a pretty good Xs and Os coach and developed players, but struggled to recruit.

fire a coach going to an Elite 8? You would be a tough AD. Imagine the criticism you would get. Just be glad you don't have to worry about that.

Didn't he write Brownell a letter the year before though about expectations on making the postseason? Thank you Neff. That sure lit a fire under Coach!

It’s his school and coach, he can do what he wants, I believe the coach leads in all time losses too, so lots of room for improvements.
Year before last probably would have been a much better time to make changes but reducing the buyout was a very smart decision.

I believe Coach K, Dean Smith and Bobby Kinight are the biggest losers at their respective schools meaning that distinction is the result of a long tenure

^^^^this
Cycle through coaches and million $ buyouts - wash - rinse - repeat. A school could keep their coach and dedicate a fraction of the buyouts to NIL and have a very good team assuming the other pieces are in place. The ACC is littered with schools who have a better basketball history than CU that keep flipping the new coach switch with terrible results

I think I would have considered firing him then too. I have always liked Brad but was frustrated until last year.
He’s got this program looking as good as it ever has and the ride has been awesome.

but you would be right and most ADs would have fired Brad several years ago. We are in a really good place as a program and Brownell deserves all the credit (and his bosses for supporting him). I was on the fire Brad train for many years and I don't think the decision would have been wrong at the time.
The aura of mediocrity that surrounds Clemson basketball certainly helped keep Brad around during the 'blah' years.
