What do we agree on?

Most days we exchange or read about stark political and worldview differences (the poles). What are topics and policies that Americans seem to largely agree on? Example - the US Southern border needs significant attention, but the "how" remains TBD. What else? Term limits?

Not much. Food, water and shelter and the majority family.

It shouldn't be that difficult to answer.

But, in today's political culture in America, I'm not sure we could find any "universal agreement." Or even "nearly universal agreement."

We could use the same words, but they would have different meanings.

1. We want to protect the constitution.
2. We believe in freedom.
3. We believe in a democratic (or representative republic) form of government.
4. We believe the courts should be free from political bias and base their rulings on law, not their interpretation of what the law should be.

Thanks for that - kind of what I'm fishing for - there has to be some common ground (vs. tribalism). Not necessarily in the "can't was all just get along" way, necessarily, but compromise is the only way (IMO) that the USA can find its way again. It just makes me sad most days.

of life. Most people want to live happily and peacefully with their families, friends, and neighbors. We need to remember, embrace, and celebrate that commonality. As Americans, we share an even more special bond, based on what should be a solemn belief in and commitment to our constitution.

It's perfectly normal to disagree about the best ways (policy) to achieve and maintain all of that. Any relationship demands tolerance and compromise, as long as common respect is maintained. When we become intolerant and let those diagreements become more important than the things we have in common, it all starts to fall apart. By all means stand your ground when needed, and always voice your opinion, but if you don't get your way, don't hate; talk about it and realize the person you disagree with is not your enemy.

We do need to be able to get back to being able to disagree without being disagreeable.

People aren't robots, so there should be areas of disparate opinion, but it seems the art of either compromise or agreeing to disagree is almost a quaint notion.

woman?" What was once common agreement and common sense is endlessly argued because we have allowed the lunatics among us to have ever more of the microphones and political influence.

IMO, it really boils down to the infection of the postmodernist view that have largely influenced this inability for people to agree on anything. That and the dumbing down of our politics into echo chamber cheerleading squads have brought us to a point of utter disagreement.

The postmodernist philosophy that used to be confined to the halls of cooky academia now runs rampant among much of the credentialed elite and is particularly strong among radical activists whose grip over a political Party gives them the power and propaganda mechanisms to argue their irrational and ridiculous positions.

The very nature of post modernism is that "reason" and "truth" don't really exist as everyone has their own "truth". Truth, facts, historical norms, and accepted cultural standards are all considered "subjective" to the point of being irrelevant or of no consequence. To the postmodernist 1+1 can equal 3 or any other number depending on your "truth". Postmodernism in it's extreme would result in absolute chaos and the destruction of a society.

So when facts and truth no longer matter - what used to be widespread common sense and common agreement are now routinely at odds with the ridiculous and irrational.

I think most on here agree men should not be in women’s sports. Most on here are against late term abortions except for saving the mother’s life.
Most agree we need strong borders and a strong military.

That Social Security & Medicare should not receive benefit cuts. Those are two things that seem to always poll well. Our two parties should work together to solidify these two valuable programs, because the voters do not want them cut or dismantled.

After that, there's divergence on many issues, or it's more likely dependent on how questions are asked.
