I think so. Passing wise, DJ has a stronger arm, but the limitations in his ability to push the ball downfield with longer throws is just like Bryant. Bryant was more valuable because he was faster and his legs could make a difference. I would vote KB all day long!

Kelly and DJU both rotten our defense kepts us in the games. Both tanked when teams blitzed them. DJU great passer at Oregon State than Bryant at Mizzou cause of their opponents didn’t blitz as much SEC and ACC teams

Interesting take.
Our D was rocking & rolling in 2021 especially. However, our OL in 2021 was bad. WRs in both 2021 and 2022 were substandard. Despite that, KB2’s superior running skills might have won us the NC State game in 2021. DJU had that awful pik-6 on the shovel pass against Pitt in the 2021 loss. I see your point that, without those 2 losses in 2021 season and our only loss being to Nat’l Champ UGA in that 10 - 3 loss, we at least had a shot at winning ACC Championship and then reaching CFP.
Not so sure about 2022 making it to CFP if KB2 was at QB instead of DJU. DJU win us the road game vs WF in a spectacular performance. Can’t see KB2 winning us that game. In the other hand, DJU stunk up the joint against S.Carolina, but so did the rest of our offense. I still think that KB2 wins that game for us. We still end up with the same W-L record with KB2 as we did with DJU.

Dang good question.
From my perspective, college FB is great and NFL is meh.
Therefore, my frame of reference as to who is better vs who is worse is based in college performance.
It isn’t out of the question that DJU might harness his fastball and then figure out his change-up by midway through the year. If he can find some Zen Master to cure his yips, then his accuracy … at least in the should-be-easy short tossed to RBs … could be cured.
Looking at DJU’s decisions yesterday, he looked good. Better than his full time starter seasons with us in 2021 and 2022.
If he gets these things fixed (not likely, but not impossible), then he could have a stellar 2nd half of 2024 season. Putting it another way, if he gets it all fixed, then DJU would have had a better college career than KB, even though he will have never gotten his team into the CFP.

Nope. His stats were terrible compared to DJ. DJ was top 12 in QBR last year with terrible talent around him. DJ will end with more than twice the passing yards than KB. KB had ELITE talent at every position. DJ did not.

Stats are not so one-sided as you say. KB had 2,800 yards passing in 2017. DJ has never done that. KB also had 665 yards rushing in 2017, and DJ has obviously never come close to that. KB is a better player, which is why he won more at Clemson.

Last 3 years in CFP if we had KB2 at QB. Never thought of that angle.
You may be on to something with that analysis. The one game that jumps out at me where DJU might have won us a game that KB2 might not have was the 2022 game against WF. DJU win that game for us; he was spectacular. KB2 wins us the S.Carolina game in 2022, though … easily. KB2 vs Notre Dame in 2022 would have been interesting. ND crushed our OL like a grape in that game in S.Bend. KB2’s superior running skills might have bought us some 1st half ‘survival’ time for us to get over our shock. KB2 might not have won that game for us, but it wouldn’t have been the beat down that we had with DJU at the wheel.

Interesting take.
KB2 was not reliably accurate, but I recall that early season 2017 game against Auburn when he made some pinpoint throws.
DJU had, to my recollection, two games when his accuracy and poise were superb. 2020 season as TL16’s stand in against ND, and 2022 game against WF in Winston Salem.
Both DJU and KB2 made plenty of excellent throws, of course, but neither was reliably successful with mid or down field passing.
DJU probably can’t outrun … today … a now-old KB2 who is probably coaching somewhere. QB running was clearly a special KB2 attribute.

My immediate reaction is to say yes- by a mile but after thinking about it my answer is still yes but they aren’t that far apart. The entire offense has fallen off drastically since 2018- not just the quarterback position. DJ looked pretty good in 2020 for two games when he had the same supporting cast that Trevor Lawrence had.

Kelly Bryant doesn't quit on the team after game 4 and finishes out the season.
We still have the same record. We're pouring points all over everybody. TL is on the bench by mid-third and KB2 still gets tons of quality reps and actually learns something by playing behind TL. Kelly gets his redemption by beating Syracuse after TL goes down and KB having lost (and getting hurt) the year before.
We use him in short yardage like a Tebow or Taysom Hill. The defense has to respect his ability to throw a short pass, but they know he can pick up three yards with decent blocking.
He actually has some good film to watch compared to his last season at Mizzou and gets an invite to training camp. Perhaps a NFL team signs him as a free agent to use him for a little Jalen Hurts tush push action.
So ask yourself, "Who do I want backing up TL?" This becomes a not-so-easy question because I thought we were in good hands with DJU after the OT loss to Notre Dame. After having seen the full body of work yet (oh trust me, we've seen all the development that DJU will do, don't kid yourself), I like KB because I think DJ is broken.

Absolutely! I would take Kelly Bryant over him any day. I think the closer option is Cole Stoudt. That one for me is a toss up. I do think Cole froze up less after the snap.

DJ can't throw against anyone (2022 WF exception noted, but the existence of an exception does not disprove the rule).
I never saw saw KB drop back, see his primary receiver covered, then turn his back to the line of scrimmage and wait to get hit. That's when I unhitched the wagon from DJ.

He was a much better runner. They are about the same on passing. Neither one can throw a good pass more than 5 yards.

Kelly Bryant in fact over the last couple seasons would have won most of those games. His issue would only come up when you play "the elite of the elite"!

KB2 had his ceiling, but he was faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar better than DJU. REwatching DJU games is still painful,even knowing the outcome.

No, he was not better... He was equally as poor. Both made the offense one dimensional which put undue pressure on the entire offense. KB had a better defense (IMHO), hands down, which is why there was a playoff appearance with him at the helm. Great question!
