ACC Meeting going on now - Neff pushing for unequal revenue

sharing in the ACC. What are your thoughts? Will it work? Or will it further degrade the conference? Not sure it will close the gap enough between ACC and BIG and SEC. We may have to wait for the GOR to expire in 2036. Only other alternative is somehow forcing BC and Syracuse out by imposing a min. that must be spent on football. Then we have two fewer mouths to feed.

If we have to wait for it to expire we might as well get as

much as we can now.

That would change the TV package.

I don't think there is much legally Clemson can do to increase our share of revenue.

This would be a negotiation - FSU, Miami, and UNC (possibly others) are pushing for it in addition to Clemson.

I don’t disagree, but when your conference has to resort

to such measures, it is on life support. Time to go ahead and get to where this is eventually going anyway with a couple super conferences and stop inching in that direction. Just do it already. Divide the best of the rest into the 2 super conferences and those left behind develop their own division and championship.

Big 12 has been doing it for years and they just signed

a bigger TV deal than we have.

Why a 2036 deal anyway what with SEC being $$ ahead

of ACC in 2020! Swoffie was a bad negotiator!!

Swofford screwed us one last time on the way out.***

While it is true that Swofford was a terrible negotiator...

at the end of the day, all of the league members, or at least the majority of them, would have agreed.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

Unequal revenue sharing will not accomplish enough on its

own to bridge enough gap between us and those in our competitive set. The ACC will have to also restructure its football scheduling to enhance its weekly media offering, meaning more games annually between its football-centric programs and less mixing in those that aren't. Such an approach to scheduling would also provide a justification for the unequal revenue approach.

Scrapping divisions altogether, as we're entering into this season, was a nice start towards increasing more attractive games annually for our media partners. It added about 40% more of these, which we should benefit from financially. Recreating divisions with football-centric in one and the non in the others would create another 60% boost in our annual premium inventory. Once you combine A) better content more often with B) enhanced share for those contributing there - that's where we can keep pace on the media revenue end.

just my "hot take"...Clemson won't be in the ACC in the next

5-7 years..........especially if they know what's good for them.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yep...

Feb 9, 2023, 2:44 PM

Dabo has already said where this is going.....two and then eventually one. ACC is putting CLEM at a competitive disadvantage.

on getting Clemson out of this bush league.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

There’s blood in the water…

Feb 9, 2023, 6:46 PM

This is clearly being brought to the conference by a few teams. We have a decent bargaining chip considering we are saying we’re not happy and we might have to look around. Of course the rest of the conference has the GoR. So who blinks first.

Clearly the ACC won’t be around for to much longer since we’re heading towards Super Conferences. Hopefully we’re doing our due diligence along with the Seminoles and Hurricanes and we’re looking and talking to other conferences!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I suspect that is a diversion.

I think the real talks are going on behind the scenes with parties inside and outside the ACC to try and figure out how to dissolve the conference in such a way that "everybody wins." Some will win more than others, but there has to be a way that the "lesser members" of the conference aren't big losers.

BC and Syracuse are two of the mid tier programs.

If the top tier schools get the bigger piece of the pie to have a chance to compete, does that drive enough of the lower tier schools out of the Conference to void the existing contract?

I wonder if negotiating unequal revenue includes adding Notre Dame in football? That is the one thing that may keep the ACC relevant. After this year it doesn't look like BB will!
