Member that time when Trump called Covirus a hoax?

Mar 14, 2020, 8:42 AM

Yeah, well. That was another lie perpetuated by MSM.

From WAPO which gave Biden four pinocchios...

“At the 10-second mark, the camera shows a tight shot of the president saying “coronavirus” and then cuts to a wide shot where he says, “this is their new hoax.” Both clips are from Trump’s Feb. 28 campaign rally in North Charleston, S.C., but he never said “coronavirus, this is their new hoax.” Rather, Biden’s ad clipped a large part of Trump’s speech to make it seem as though he had.”

Mar 14, 2020, 9:14 AM

He is still should realize he shouldn't use hoax in the same sentence with the coronavirus on more than one occasion, even if the context wasn't for sure meant that way. What an idiot. Moreover, he added fuel to the fire when he downplayed the threat of the coronavirus. He compared to the cold even and then he went up to the common flu. He made his bed. While he is either an idiot, or he purposely subtly throwing out dog signals to get the same message across to incite his cult. Now many in his cult still think the virus is like the common cold or flu and it's just the libs out to destroy Trump. That could always have been his goal. If that is his case, it was very crafty, but completely irresponsible. Kind of unfit for office either way. Not a leader.

what happened the next day in publications known to lie about important issues such as Russia/Trump coordination to fix elections and other stuff like that.

For most of the population (80+%) the virus is no more dangerous than a cold or the flu. Anyone saying he downplayed this is a liar. The people constantly criticizing Trump's handling of this and claiming ulterior motives for him trying to buffer the panic are ignoring some important facts.

When Trump closed off travel from China anyone with two or more brain cells knew it was a serious issue. You're accusing me of head in the sand on this and being a cult follower knowing that I wanted all incoming travel stopped back in early Feb, a month ago.

You were one of the guys with your head up your butt for not addressing this issue like Trump did when he shut the door, I did.

Obama breezed through H1N1 with 13000 Americans dead before he declared a national emergency yet he never made an attempt to fix these regulations. Nobody in the MSM breathed a word of disapproval so don't hand me that 'Cult,' and 'dog whistle,' bullchit.

If we had closed off all Travel in Feb, what does that do the economy? Not to mention that the virus started in Nov in china(maybe as early as Sept). So closins everything in Feb would have at best delayed the explosion that is about to happen to be delayed a few days or weeks. The virus was already in country by Feb. We would have had to close the borders in Dec or maybe even NOV. And even then, that probably would only have delayed it. The only thing we can do now is mitigation the spread. And you see how just doing a few closing of events has gotten everyone's panties in a wad. Just realize that in the coming weeks one or more of your friends or family are going to need a machine respirator. Hopefully, there will be one available AND the medical folks to help run it when it is needed.

My wife laughed at me back in January when China

Mar 14, 2020, 9:45 AM

locked down. I told her that this was going to be here soon. And we will end up doing much the same thing as China. She thought I was crazy. Once I saw China's reaction, I knew. Forget the numbers. Forget the spin. I always judge people by their actions and not their words. That's how I knew.

When China locked down, Trump knew this would come here. WHO knew this would grow into a pandemic. WHO knew this can't be stopped. China knew this virus stays live airborne for up to 4 hours. China sprayed Wuhan with misters of disinfectant. They knew it was airborne.

We're going through the same process. It's essential to maintain order. At first deny, hide, obfuscate. Then when that doesn't work, start taking action and claim you can beat it. Then take drastic actions and say it's a fight (insert nationalism here), and everyone must sacrifice. Then you ride out hell for a month or so doing the absolute best you can to cope.

Then it subsides only when half the people have been exposed and gotten it, basically. At this point at least half the people in China have had this. Most with no or "mild" symptoms, some severe, and 1-4% dead depending on location. China's drastic measures basically dropped the death rate by 2/3 roughly. Our numbers SHOULD be a little better than China's numbers, hopefully. As we develop antibodies and herd immunity, it too will mutate. Usually when viruses mutate, they mutate in favor of easier transmissibility, and the expense of severity. Hopefully a higher percentage of Americans get this, because that will probably mean it will be less severe here.

I can't see my father now in his nursing home. Was driving back from Charleston and planning to see him last night. Listened to the governor's presser on the way back. Confirmed it was effective immediately. Mom and I can only facetime with him, and there are nurses who can facilitate that. It's hard, but I know it's for the best. I wasn't really feeling good about seeing him after traveling about all day anyway. I'd hate to bring it in there.

Re: That has nothing to do with stopping it

Mar 14, 2020, 11:08 AM

You are correct in that there is no stopping this. What we can do is try to mitigate as much as possible. Which means closing everything and slowing the spread as much as possible. The reason is exactly because no one could STOP it. But, we can slow it down (see china) but that requires closing off all cities that demonstrate community transmission. Did you see the videos of the chinese police dragging people off the street/home into the quarantine hospital shacks they through up in a week? Can we do that here? Or are we looking more like Italy and the rest of the western world?

One really interesting thing to note, is the countries that had a lot of SARS cases and MERS cases seem to be handling this much better than countries that had low to no infections from previous pandemics. Those countries immediately took very aggressive action against it. Those countries (mostly western) did not take as aggressive action because it would damage the economy, or its just the flu, or "we only have 15 case and soon it will be zero" are not doing as well. On the bright side, next time we might have learned our lesson too and be more proactive.

You didn't see countries like China, Italy, Norway, Spain, etc locking down and shuttering their economies for swine flu. You didn't hear about hospitals being overwhelmed, medical systems crumbling, or anything else.

Again, judge reactions, not talk.

Swine flu ended up being twice as bad as the normal flu, when it started. This is several times worse than that. You can forget the numbers. I promise you China didn't lock down their country over 80,000 sick people, with 80% of those mildly sick, and even 3,000 deaths. China kills 3,000 people a year just cracking down on Muslims and dissidents. Nope. When this is finished, actuarial tables will need to be recalculated.

Trump could have ended all incoming travel when the CIA,my speculation, informed him of the early stages of this outbreak in Wuhan in mid Nov '19. We could have brought out fellow citizens back under strict quarantine and possible ended the threat.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpgringofhonor-clemsontiger1988-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Nothing we can do can "end the threat"

Mar 14, 2020, 2:09 PM

Take a look at the world map. It's everywhere. No one can end the threat of this, any more than they can end the flu threat, or the threat of the common cold, or the threat of whatever.

This thing spreads twice as efficiently as the flu, and is 10-34 times deadlier. The virus can last on surfaces for days, it can last FOUR HOURS in the air. Guy sneezes in a bathroom. You go into that bathroom 30 minutes later, you get it. Even at home, you can not quarantine yourself at home and not give it to your family. The air ventilation system will spread it even if you're locked in a separate room. It actively spread on a cruise ship where everyone stayed in their rooms. ventilation. Negative pressure rooms are the only way to prevent the spread. Even then, someone who walks by outside can get it unless that air is HIGHLY filtered. 4 HOURS in the air is a deal breaker. Game over containing that.

Best way to "end the threat" is to have ALREADY gone 10+ miles into the woods, away from all other people and civilization and live off the land for at least 4-6 months. Even then when you emerge from the woods, it will still be going around.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgringofhonor-tiggity-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

This seems overboard.

Mar 14, 2020, 2:37 PM

I agree that “ending the threat”...as if you can eliminate the risk of getting a particular virus...is wishful thinking.

But “ You go into that bathroom 30 minutes later, you get it.” Is equally as extreme. The fact that it survived for four hours in a lab does not mean it will last four hours in an ordinary environment and the fact that it survives at all doesn’t mean that you get the virus if you then go into that room.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

null

It can remain active in air for up to 4 hours

Mar 14, 2020, 3:07 PM

I will just leave it at that. Draw whatever conclusions you wish. But that is how it spreads on a ship with quarantined passengers. And that's why home isolation will almost guarantee infecting your whole house. Which is why China ended home quarantine, which is how they started initially. They found cases skyrocketed as entire family units became infected. It did little to curve the exponential growth rate. They turned the tide by quarantining mildly ill patients among others mildly ill in separate quarantine centers. Leaving those at home to care for themselves. If a patient in a quarantine center got severely ill, they'd go to the hospital, those in the hospital as they recovered were transferred to the quarantine facility. They really created an effective system to handle the virus eventually, but it's one we would likely never institute nationally.

If you get sick you report to a "fever clinic", basically a triage type facility. They checked your temps and vitals. If had fever and or cough, you breathed at a rate of more than 22 breaths per minute, or had an oxygen level below 92, they admitted you to the hospital and oxygen was administered. If you had fever, symptoms, but your blood oxygen was safe and above 92, they would send you to a quarantine facility. If you have a wife and kids, the sick one was sent to quarantine, and the healthy one stayed at home with the kids. If you got worse in the quarantine facility, they'd send you to the hospital. If you got better in the hospital, they'd transfer you out to the quarantine facility. This way they minimized the stay of those in the hospital, kept the sick away from the healthy, and turned the tide within a week or two.

You will likely find the infection curve is steeper for Europe and the US than China. Our death rates will likely be higher as well.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgringofhonor-tiggity-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I appreciate and respect you....

Mar 14, 2020, 4:21 PM

but there's no way you have any accurate information about anything related to the virus from China.

While we do not yet know the scope of how widely spread this virus is in the US we do keep accurate body counts. There's no possible way to know China's body count, I doubt they know how many have died there.

South Carolina reported one case and the shelves emptied of hand sanitizer and other products to limit the spread and impact of the virus. As I post this our fatality rate is 2% and we are fully aware that there are 10s of thousands of people who have the virus but aren't factored into that calculation.

The reports now are 50 dead with 2440 sick. I'm defend your right to your opinion but I want you to know that while I believe this virus is going to leave a scar it will not be as bad as you believe.

President Trump gambled very early and very often on the idea that the coronavirus wouldn’t turn out to be nearly as severe as some health officials have warned it could get.

The thrust of Trump’s statements about the virus has been almost relentlessly optimistic, which is a marked contrast to those of some health officials who prefer that people be overly prepared rather than underestimate the threat. Trump has frequently suggested that the United States is winning the battle against the virus, and he has regularly promoted the idea that it could suddenly disappear.

Live updates on the coronavirus outbreak

Including on Wednesday.

“It goes away,” Trump said alongside the leader of Ireland. “It’s going away. We want it to go away with very, very few deaths.”

Despite those comments, today cases are rising quickly, major institutions such as the NBA are shutting down and there are increasing complaints about the availability of testing.

Below is a timeline of Trump’s comments playing down the threat posed by the virus.

Jan. 22: “We have it totally under control.”

Jan. 24: “It will all work out well.”

China has been working very hard to contain the Coronavirus. The United States greatly appreciates their efforts and transparency. It will all work out well. In particular, on behalf of the American People, I want to thank President Xi!

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 24, 2020
Jan. 29: “Just received a briefing on the Coronavirus in China from all of our GREAT agencies, who are also working closely with China. We will continue to monitor the ongoing developments. We have the best experts anywhere in the world, and they are on top of it 24/7!”

Jan. 30: “We think we have it very well under control. We have very little problem in this country at this moment — five. And those people are all recuperating successfully. But we’re working very closely with China and other countries, and we think it’s going to have a very good ending for it. So that I can assure you.”

Feb. 2: “Well, we pretty much shut it down coming in from China. … We can’t have thousands of people coming in who may have this problem, the coronavirus. So we’re gonna see what happens, but we did shut it down, yes.”

AD
Feb. 7: “Nothing is easy, but [Chinese President Xi Jinping] … will be successful, especially as the weather starts to warm & the virus hopefully becomes weaker, and then gone.”

....he will be successful, especially as the weather starts to warm & the virus hopefully becomes weaker, and then gone. Great discipline is taking place in China, as President Xi strongly leads what will be a very successful operation. We are working closely with China to help!

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 7, 2020
Feb. 10: “I think the virus is going to be — it’s going to be fine.”

Feb. 14: “We have a very small number of people in the country, right now, with it. It’s like around 12. Many of them are getting better. Some are fully recovered already. So we’re in very good shape.”

Feb. 19: “I think it’s going to work out fine. I think when we get into April, in the warmer weather, that has a very negative effect on that and that type of a virus. So let’s see what happens, but I think it’s going to work out fine.”

Feb. 24: “The Coronavirus is very much under control in the USA. … Stock Market starting to look very good to me!”

Feb. 25: “You may ask about the coronavirus, which is very well under control in our country. We have very few people with it, and the people that have it are … getting better. They’re all getting better. … As far as what we’re doing with the new virus, I think that we’re doing a great job.”

Feb. 25: “CDC and my Administration are doing a GREAT job of handling Coronavirus, including the very early closing of our borders to certain areas of the world.”

Feb. 26: “Because of all we’ve done, the risk to the American people remains very low. … When you have 15 people, and the 15 within a couple of days is going to be down to close to zero. That’s a pretty good job we’ve done."

Feb. 26:

Q: This is spreading — or is going to spread, maybe, within communities. That’s the expectation.
A: It may. It may.
Q: Does that worry you?
A: No. ... No, because we’re ready for it. It is what it is. We’re ready for it. We’re really prepared. ... We hope it doesn’t spread. There’s a chance that it won’t spread too, and there’s a chance that it will, and then it’s a question of at what level.
Feb. 27: “Only a very small number in U.S., & China numbers look to be going down. All countries working well together!”

AD
Feb. 28: “I think it’s really going well. We did something very fortunate: we closed up to certain areas of the world very, very early — far earlier than we were supposed to. I took a lot of heat for doing it. It turned out to be the right move, and we only have 15 people and they are getting better, and hopefully they’re all better. There’s one who is quite sick, but maybe he’s gonna be fine. … We’re prepared for the worst, but we think we’re going to be very fortunate."

Feb. 28: “It’s going to disappear. One day, it’s like a miracle, it will disappear.”

Feb. 29: “We’re the number-one travel destination anywhere in the world, yet we have far fewer cases of the disease than even countries with much less travel or a much smaller population.”

March 4: “Some people will have this at a very light level and won’t even go to a doctor or hospital, and they’ll get better. There are many people like that.”

AD
March 5: “With approximately 100,000 CoronaVirus cases worldwide, and 3,280 deaths, the United States, because of quick action on closing our borders, has, as of now, only 129 cases (40 Americans brought in) and 11 deaths.”

March 10: “And it hit the world. And we’re prepared, and we’re doing a great job with it. And it will go away. Just stay calm. It will go away.”

March 11: “I think we’re going to get through it very well.”
