Progressives vs. Conservatives

which through our nation's history has given us more in general?
Progressives:
-More rights for all people; Civil Rights Acts, Women's Suffrage, Marriage Equality. -The New Deal which helped bring us out of the Depression. Created jobs, built infrastructure, created Social Security which Conservatives enjoy to this day. -During the Industrial Revolution in the US progressives fought and won better working hours, better pay, no child labor.
Conservatives:
-Deregulation which quickly was accompanied by soaring stock market prices and then recession. -Titans of industry, Carnegie, Rockefeller, Vanderbilt. (read; monopolies) -Wealth disparity
What am I missing?

Yeah, I actually agree with Manac on this one. You do strike me as someone who blames their lifes failures on other, maybe it is time to look in a mirror for the root cause of all your problems.

Neither has "given" us anything.

I'm just going to blow up the general mindset right off the bat. Makes the subsequent argument meaningless.
That's the biggest sham in history really. Governments are always given everything by the people and citizens. Doesn't matter if you're a dictatorship, a democracy, socialist nation, a monarchy, whatever.
HOWEVER, politicians since the beginning of time have "given" us the mindset that they somehow "give" the people something. You get a Social Security check? You think that was "given" to you by a progressive, or some politician? Look around at all the people working, your friends, neighbors, whoever is working and is NOT retired. THEY'RE the ones "giving" you your Social Security. Heck, technically you're giving it to yourself as it's only a coerced savings plan for people too irresponsible to save money. But it's broken because the government is too irresponsible to save your money you give them and spent it.
Government doesn't have a penny to give, a job to create, or a war to fight, without taking something from the citizens. It doesn't have a penny to spend that it doesn't take from a person, performing labor, in a private sector economy, helping someone in some capacity.
Just a different way to look at things.

Christianity actually helped the country more than political ideologies. FAR more IMO. Which explains our decline really. Conservatism promotes allowing people to keep their labor to themselves more, which creates inequality but arguably a better overall system.... if controlled. Liberalism promotes taking money from those who earned it helping others, and giving it to those with less thereby increasing equality at the expense of freedom, but netting a decrease in overall wealth as the taker of entitlements is a net drain as they do not exchange their own labor for money but someone else's.

Neither the Dems nor Pubs actually do anything for the average working person. Elect who you want but it changes nothing, the powers behind the elected folks will only allow so much, no turds in their punchbowls.
You got the ACA when BHO had a super majority, why not univeral health care? Because the powers that be could make money on the ACA, no turds in the punchbowl.

You're replacing 'liberal,' with 'progressive in most cases.

Liberals are for continuing our free speech. Liberals are about freedom and liberty for all. What has happened is the progressives have now dragged the liberals so far left that the cancel culture is squelching freedom of speech by being the voice of liberalism. I'm not buying it.
Liberal are not so far from me in their views of equal rights for all, freedom of speech and other traditional liberal causes.
A liberal would burn a US flag and I would support their right to burn it though I would not disrespect our flag. A progressive would/does cancel me for saying I respect the flag.
A liberal would defend the civil rights of all people regardless of color, religion or sexual orientation. A progressive would put blacks, gays and secular humanist at the front of the line.

We Conservatives...37% of the country according to Gallup last year...we want stock spikes and recessions, monopolies and wealth disparities. That's what we fight so hard for.
Thanks, FBCoach. Thanks for coming on here and pulling back the curtain a bit with your indepth analysis.

I am guessing your join date may reflect your age because that is an extremely superficial and incorrect summary.
Progressives of today are not at all the progressives of around 1900, and the term was not that popular recently until the last decade or two.
Conservatives and capitalists gave us the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, victory over the British, victory over Germany/Japan, a man on the moon (if you believe it), victory over the Soviet Union in the Cold War, the internet, and associated freedom/liberty/life for 100s of millions of people who would have been subject to tyranny otherwise.
This created the greatest nation in modern history. It created so much wealth and prosperity that people were allowed to think about and do others things instead of feeding themselves to stay alive.
People that could not compete, were jealous they could not keep up with the Joneses, have self-esteem problems, etc. created theories to raise themselves up and denigrate those with success. These people eventually formed into Liberals and doubled down as Progressives.
These groups gave us victimhood, AIDS, big government, a trend towards ubiquitous government corruption, a culture of generational dependence on government by blacks, social media, and legal pot.

What's wrong with legal pot?

I think pot should never have been made illegal. It was the fourth biggest government screwup of the 20th century.
