The Clemson "fandom" community continues to embarrass itself to the max when it talks about DJU. People should come to the realization that they should just shut up instead of continuing to try to validate their own little-boy egos. It's pathetically sad, and beyond even.
So he wasn't DW4 or TL16; DJU also didn't have their weapons, nor their personal tools. He was a bad fit for the offense, and after failing to withstand the onslaught against UGA, just simply lost his nerve. Even still, he's thrown for more yards than any other visiting QB at Notre Dame.
So tell you what; go back and look at his last play against UNC. Here's what you will see that you surely couldn't be troubled to notice before:
1) 3rd and 5 from the Clemson 30. DJU takes the snap and almost immediately has the LE (Left End) in his face. RT Miller has whiffed on an inside move. RG Parks gets a bit of a shove in the LE's back so the LE's momentum is working against him as DJU peels right out of the pocket. DJU will turn upfield at the 20, but the LE can't stop until hitting the 19 and after.
2) The MG circles left toward DJU's right and will go untouched into the backfield. 3 OL Blockers versus 2 Defensive Lineman - but one touch is all the OL can get. The MG can't get there in time to stop the pass, but after running about 10 yards he hits DJU full bore in the chest just as the pass is released from the 21. DJU is knocked back beyond the 19.
3) Shipley is offset at the snap to DJU's right, and makes no attempt to chip the LE. He begins circling right into a wheel route almost immediately, but there's a ILB on that side who will go to pick Shipley up on his route. Shipley is still only at the 28 when the pass is released, 2 yards behind the LOS.
4) Shipley is immediately checked at the 29 with the ILB's left hand, and then grabbed with both hands at the 30-31 as he starts to slip beyond the defender. If that's not DPI, then there's no such thing, ever.
5) The CB/S is cleared by the TE Allen initially split right, and then cutting across the middle on an in-route. So there's no immediate threat to the pass on that side of the defensive backfield.
6) The ILB still has his hand on Shipley at the 34, but Shipley has him beat to the outside and downfield. Shipley stumbles slightly at the 38 from the sustained contact, and from not being a great receiver. Shipley leaves his feet at the 39.
7) Shipley never get his hands on the ball as his forward momentum increases his loss of balance and tilt forward. The ball actually hits Shipley in the helmet, glancing off at the 42. Had Shipley been upright instead of leaning forward, the ball would have been right in his hands from over his left (inside) shoulder.
8) Todd Blackledge acknowledges DJU's "great effort" and "really nice movement out of the pocket". In sum, DJU eludes two basically untouched rushers, gets crunched right after releasing the ball, and then hits Shipley on the freaking money some 21 yards downfield. On the helmet even, LOL.
It's the last play DJU will ever run as a Clemson Tiger, and it's fair representation of what he faced and how he faced it.
So, you know what, eff your hyperbole, eff your arrogance, eff your repetitive beattching about the last two years, eff your need to denigrate players and Coaches alike because Clemson doesn't go undefeated every year. There's plenty of crap that most of you dumbazzes just didn't notice for all your supposed football acumen, and too often you make that blowhard "Carolina Jackpot" look like an effin Einstein.
DJU is gone. Let it go. Grow up, ####, and start to act like real Clemson men. Otherwise take your stinking ### on down to 5-points and join the rest of the whiny babies who know nothing about football.

What I remember above all else was the ttransformation that took place in team members the moment Cade replaced DJ in the first quarter of the UNC conference title game. Truly amazing.

UNC game
Klubnik 20 of 24 for 279 yards , one touchdown, rushed 7 times for 30 yards one rushing touchdown and a 19 yard reception
Uiagalelei 2 of 5 for 10 yards
Same players around each QB. Klubnik was handled incorrectly during the season to give DJ more time with the ones. It is a miracle that he played as well as he did being thrown into that situation.
DJ threw a ball straight into the dirt in order to get benched. The reason is he wanted to announce his transfer and not play in the bowl game.
I have always liked DJ and pulled for him to be successful.I wish him the best at OSU. Time will tell how he does this season.

I don’t know if I have rewatched the exact play that you are referring to but, I have seen Shipley drop footballs before. I cannot recall the game but the guy dropped what would have been a touchdown pass.
For the record, I am a long time IPTAY member, season ticket holder, and alum. Clemson is the only school that I applied to. My dad was a lifelong Clemson fan too. I am not a fly by night person here.
You mentioned how well DJ played in his first game at ND. I was at the ND game last year and I posted on here before the game that I would be DJ’s biggest cheerleader in South Bend. That game was miserable. There is a lot of blame to go around on how the team has performed the last two seasons. I personally am glad that DJ and Streeter are gone and wish them both good fortune in the future. It is time for everyone to move on and look forward to this season.
Speaking of moving on. Today is Thursday and about time to travel to Duke. I will pull for Clemson football every year but, am really excited about this season. Spot the ball and Go Tigers!!!

Just face it Mike - DJU sucks. His awful play was like an albatross around the neck of our offense for TWO YEARS. No one had any confidence in him, his mind is a slow as molasses in wintertime, and his only consistent trait was inconsistency. He's not capable of running our offense. Georgia broke him, and he never recovered. His performance against the coots last season was was a disgrace.

let him pad his stats to make other programs think he might do that for them. He won't make a pimple on an NFL QB's butt. He had brain freeze when the ball was snapped. That's a mental discipline issue which he should have overcome in his childhood. I coached baseball for 10 years and had exercises which fixed those problems. I had one kid of 30+ that couldn't overcome the issue. He joined our team at 17 which was years too late to fix him.
DJ's father did that to him by telling him nothing was his fault.
DJ was a bust. It happens but Dabo treated him much better than he deserved. I attribute that to Dabo's integrity.

As always, a QB gets too much credit for wins and too much blame for losses. Sure DJ played poorly against SC, but so did the receivers and the secondary. The running backs played well and the D-line was decent. The decision to throw more and run less in the 2nd half was a mistake, so there is plenty of blame to go around.
But DJ was a convenient scapegoat and caught a lot of heat, especially om here. I don't think his bad start against UNC was intentional since that would hurt his transfer status, but even if it was, it all worked out and we still won handily. Klubnik and the offense had a tough day against Tennessee in the red zone. But, as Dabo said, you win with class and you lose with class, but it's ok to discuss rationally.

DJU was bad for our system and just played poorly overall. He seemed to be not there mentally. I am pulling for him and hope the fresh start in a new system gets him going. It's happened many times before in sports. Good luck to him.

but the coaches decision to continue to play him against the Lamecocks is what crushes me. Not DJ fault if coaches are unable to process the fact that he simply could not get out of his own way in that game.
And yes, I have to agree that DJ did indeed intentionally throw a pass into the ground just to get out of playing. Think about that, a player does something that hurts the team and make it obvious before coaches can put it together?? I am not sure what to think of anything after such faulty actions on part of the coaching staff in Death Valley against those Coots.
Yes receivers dropped passes, yes the OL did not block well on numerous occasions. There really is not much of a need to berate a player that the coaches feel are the best player to put out there. Sometimes they just are not good enough!

Thank you for providing the game replay. I watched the two series with DJ and the next series with Cade. Night and day, man. DJ couldn't hit the broad side of a barn and the team wasn't trying. Klubnik made his throws and the team responded. It was long overdue, you just don't want to admit it. I don't understand why last year still bothers you to this degree. We are only a few days away from a new season and there will be all kinds of new issues to whine about. If you still want to watch DJ, he is starting at Oregon State and you can pull up the YouTube videos and watch to your heart's content.

DJ was a square peg from the jump. Had some nice games, but he was never going to run our offense with the sustained success Watson and Lawrence did.
I hope he thrives out west and somehow makes a run at an NFL career. Heck, I’d be happy to see him someday pitching in MLB. He has a good heart and deserves for good things to happen for him.

There were numerous problems and not all fell on DJU. Always liked him here and was a great example and teammate while he was here
That changed when he left and I do not know what happened, but good luck to him
However, he did have terrible feet work, couldn’t throw a pass consistently and was slow to make decisions unless preplanned and then he refused to change it if that play was not available
Hope he does well and plays better

I believe that DJ threw the Clemson staff under the bus to buy himself some time. The firing of Streeter played perfectly into his narrative. He does not want to take any responsibility for being part of the offensive problems the past two years at Clemson. If he tanks again this season, he will not sniff the NFL.

OleMike59 there is a certain payoff one gets by calling others wrong but it usually stems from a persons deep seated need to rid themselves of personal guilt. They use "Projection" to assuage their guilty feelings and make it seem that what they hate about themselves is "outside" themselves by pointing the finger at others for what they secretly believe is actually a truth about themselves.
It's ok that you need to get it out; Just remember that wherever you go...there you are.
