wear and tear. This is catching on and I'm starting to think it's a good idea not to risk injury with the longer seasons now with the expanded playoff.

Interesting since it is just a situational scrimmage that is open to the public. I think they would still be having scrimmages, or forfeiting a great opportunity for development.
I don’t see how they can justify it by wear and tear (outside of serious injury of course which has always been a concern) considering it’s 5 months from the start of the season.

Not familiar with what Texas does in their game, but I see no problem with the way Dabo has run it the last few years. He holds anyone that is either experienced enough, or is marginal as far as injuries.
If the kids aren't in a spring game then most likely they're doing something sports related. Like pickup bball, softball, whatever. I'm all for it because it gives players and coaches a good opportunity to communicate as if a live game.
Sure, could they do it without fans? Certainly. Obviously it doesn't give the fans any insight into how the team will perform, but it does make for interesting banter. Gives fans a great chance to meet and welcome the new players... and in Clemson's case, helps the local economy.
And as another counter point that old57 tries to make, it doesn't have anything to do with basketball attendance. And recently it's aligned with other sports on campus like taking in a softball or baseball game. I see ours as a win win.

But they are fine with the players playing 16 or potentially 17 regular season games with expanded playoffs.

Spring games are a waste. They only cater to fools who " think" they have enough fb knowledge to evaluate a team playing against itself. It's just a practice but some idiots get a kick out of watching practice. They will drive across the state to watch FB practice but not to watch an ACTUAL basketball game. That's just as stupid as Duke and UNC fans leaving an ACTUAL FB game to watch a basketball scrimmage.

There is never a bad time to travel to Clemson.
I thought we had it all figured out a couple years back. I went to the spring football game...saw a spring soccer game vs duke...a baseball game vs Louisville and watched the Tennis team practice...also shopped down town and had a few beers with friends.
If only they could schedule multiple events like they did that year...

Spring games have turned into something that does not resemble a real game and it would be no big deal if they are cancelled.

I guess it's fine until a player you are counting on for the season blows out a knee in a game that doesn't matter.
Just have a big fan festival with meet and greet. That's what people really want anyways. Seems like many leave at halftime of a spring game anyways because they are bored or Hottttt!

More likely that, as the Nebraska coach said, why give other schools the chance to scout and scavenge players from your team with NIL before the fall gets here?

Please inform me on how fans being allowed to a watch a Spring scrimmage will in some way enhance a players chance of injury?
You do realize they’re still going to full on scrimmage in the Spring and Fall right, it just won’t be open to the fans. Football is not a sport where you wear only shorts and jerseys and in some way can then magically be prepared to go full on contact September 1st.
Injuries happen in football, always have , always will. It’s supposed to be a violent game played in front of fans, why the heck is everyone so enthusiastic over turning it into soccer

Guarantee you many of these programs will be watching our spring game and then making the necessary calls afterwards if they see somebody they wanna try to poach. They aren't doing theirs any more so they can be in the position of adding players instead of losing them. I think you'll see teams going away from traditional spring depth charts as well. No need to send a guy into the portal because he isn't where he wants to be on some random spring ranking.

The families of fans and tradition anymore anyway. It’s all for the athletes. The people who pay for the coaches, players, festivities, salaries, facilities and education can get bent.
It’s not about them anymore.

The truth is that they don’t want to lose players after the game when the portal opens again
