Takeaway: Is Colorado good, or is TCU bad?

I feel like week 1 is always full of snap judgements, and this will be no different. It looks like "Colorado could make a serious run at it!" is going to be a talking point this week.
But then, often times, it turns out their opponent was just wildly over-rated. I could definitely see that here. TCU's defense looked pretty rough, it doesn't look like it's going to be a great season.

Both are 6-7 win teams, IMO.
Colorado’s OL/DL will really hurt them later in the year. They don’t have the depth to last a full season.
TCU’s offense will get them to bowl eligibility. But that defense is really really bad.

Colorado was a mystery today and that gave them an advantage but that is over. Schools may not be able to catch Edwards but they will find a way to do a better job shutting down the pass.

Not sure yet, but Sanders is a legitimate QB and may win the Heisman. I had them at 3 wins and they've already made me look stupid

Vandy would have given TCU a game today

Vandy would have given TCU a run today. It close to what they were last year.

Despite the fact that TCU again has a grievous defense

Colorado's O was well schooled, and earned what they got.
Even if they had not lost, TCU would not have been back to the Natty game again this year. Last year was Cinderella,
this year will be the Pumpkin.

CU's offense was machine-like. TCU's defense was unprepared

I think coaching had a lot to do with it. CU's offense was complete "mystery meat" that TCU's defense could not figure out.
My expectations for TCU this year were not high since they lost so many players, especially their starting QB. Obviously Garrett Riley's absence was also huge. They seem like a middle of the pack Big 12 team.
I didn't think CU would do well this year; maybe 4 wins max. Deion ran off so many players they had no identity as a team and zero foundation or continuity to build on. Huge talent gaps on both sides of the ball were inevitable. Despite my comments on TCU above, I agreed with the pre-game spread of 21 points. Excluding the glaring exception at the QB position, there was a noticeable gap in talent in favor of TCU. CU has several guys on defense who barely know how to tackle. I won't be surprised if TCU never scores more than 40 points again this season. But the difference was (1) Shadeur Sanders, (2) scheming that had TCU's defense completely lost and (3) and CU's 2-3 dynamic skill players.
The more tape opponents have on CU, the less successful their offense will be. What works in their favor is Shadeur Sanders is smarter than the next 3 guys on the field. His vision and accuracy are amazing. Still, his receivers won't be as wide-open in coming games.
Bottom line: CU is going to be blown out a few times this season. If they win 4 games, it's a great season and Deion will clean up on the recruiting trail.

Colorado played far better than I expected.

But, the TCU defense is probably a whole lot weaker than I thought they were. I can't believe the OL of Colorado is that good in pass pro.

To be honest I think we have to give credit to what Sanders has done. While TCU D wasn’t great last year they would have buried CU from last year. Sanders literally replaced everyone, came out this year and looked like a competent team. Their defense isn’t great but I’m still impressed with them putting up over 40 points. Last years team couldn’t do that against air. I would be concerned if I were TCU on defense.

I'm being objective.
CO is a well-coached, disciplined team.
TCU, not so much. I saw a lot of busts. Particularly on defense.
I'm impressed with CO.

I heard the sports books got beat up on that game today. A lot of money from the Deion people on that game.

I think it's a mix of both. Colorado had some serious talent transfer in after the wife-beater cut all the players. They gelled faster than expected and seemed like they played loose and were having fun. I think they might be a 8-9 win team, given their pretty easy schedule (I'd expect them to lose 3-4 games - USC, Oregon, Utah, and maybe someone like OSU or UCLA). TCU also took a clear step backwards. They had terrible tackling. Their offense was good, but they're clearly missing Duggan and that stud receiver they had. They're probably a 6-7 win team.
