in joining a conference whose primary focus in on basketball. Without Clemson, FSU and VT, the ACC loses the lions share of its football foundation.

Notre Dame continues to receive preferential treatment from the BCS and maintains its lucrative TV deal with NBC, Notre Dame doesn't have to do anything.
If college football moves to a playoff format whereby only the conference champions are awarded spots in the playoffs, Notre Dame will be forced to join a conference.

Don't know if the message is valid, but if and when FSU and Clemson depart the ACC I believe you will see the ACC go after UConn and Rutgers with an alternate being Louisville if they are still available. Temple could be an outside possibility, but by that point I personally would not care!
