Dabo fired him immediately.
Steele was an improvement. Venables was one of the greatest coordinator hires in college football history. And Goodwin was a failure. So he's 2/3 on good coordinator hires and 3/3 on firing them at the right time.
Allen is an A+ hire on paper.

Vic Koenning was on his way out after interviewing for the HC position. He basically finished the season knowing it would be his last at Clemson.
This is how coaching changes in CFB work. Same with Jim Leonard at Wisconsin and many others.

IMO.Good DC's are more scarce and difficult to find than an OC. The DC just seems like the more difficult job.

And his two bad hires weren't even that terrible. Steeles 2010 defense was very good, and he was quite successful at Auburn after leaving Clemson. He also worked for Saban twice - before and after Clemson - so its not like he was a total bum. The wheels kind of fell off for him in 2011, and he couldn't figure out how to stop GTs option.
The Goodwin hire was a bit more dubious. Overall I think he did an OK job, but things seemed to be trending in the wrong direction and it's tough to give a guy with no experience the benefit of the doubt.

Steele was an UPgrade,took the team as far as he could, got moved on when he hit his ceiling.
BV, The Baddest DC that ever stalked the sidelines
Wes ? Well not just Dao, but a lot of people in the profession thought he was GONNA BE IT. Just goes to prove, being a brilliant defensive mind doesn't always corelate to being a play caller .Wish he was still here, back in the booth, where he helped BV so much. That's just hard to do at the place where you were the main guy.
