For the crowd going to the game, what is everyone's plan for New Years Eve? Never been to New Orleans and we are trying to figure out or plans for the trip.

Bourbon Street and Jackson square NYE will be filled with pickpockets and shysters. Be careful on the streets; they will be crowded and there will be some skilled thieves in the bunch the whole week. For NYE, the advice I've gotten from locals is find a party at a hotel/restaurant and stay away from the crowds.
We've made reservations at Antoine's, Arnaud's, Broussard's, Ted Brenna's Decatur, and for NYE at Little Gem Saloon. Opentable is the key but spots are filling quickly. The last two listed have restaurant.com discounts. We'll be at Commander's Palace well before opening time for brunch one day as their reservations are already closed.
Other spots we plan on hitting that don't take reservations are Mother's, Mulates, Drago's, Carousel Bar, Coop's Place, and Acme Oyster House, but if you go for lunch, get there before 11:30 or be prepared to wait in line for most of these.
Rock and Bowl is a classic. Cafe du Mond is also, but I suggest avoiding it in the morning and hitting it after some nightlife (it's open 24 hours).
If you're there for five days like we are, expect to gain at least ten pounds (and drop a few dollars).
WW2 museum is a must. Voodoo and graveyard tours are worth the time and money, and we always enjoy walking the Garden District. We were there over Easter a few years back and felt very welcomed at a large African-American church in the district.
Some of this is from our experience; some if it is from a friend that rides the float with Emeril's crewe during the Mardi Gras parades. Hope this helps.
GO TIGERS! Let's make sure this doesn't feel like a home game for the 'phants.

I've been there for New Years with a large group and none of us had any issues at all with pick pocketing/ theft, etc. Who wants to go to New Orleans and hangout in a hotel bar? As long as you're not belligerent drunk you'll be fine on Bourbon St.

Hi CUtimes2'
I've never replied directly to a post to the best of my recollection (I've been a member 4X longer than you, and donated until the moderators turning the free board into a juvenile playground).
Folks asked for advice, and I and one other offered some experiences that went beyond one trip "with a large group" and probably not during a major holiday.
I've got over 2.5 million air miles and have had the privilege of having wallets lifted in the border station in Wo Lui as well as the theater district in London in spite of being very careful. When I and a friend of Emeril's offers a warning that I got just today, I offer that to everyone.
Good Luck, GO TIGERS!, and I wish you the best.

Bourbon is good if you've never been and deserves to be seen, but make sure to get down to Frenchman Street for the music (Spotted Cat, Maison) and hit some of the bars in the Warehouse District (Rusty Nail, Lucy's, Barcadia). Also make sure to stop in at Erin Rose just off Bourbon Street for awesome Po Boy's and Irish Coffee (also Parasol's for good Po Boy's). Sazerac Bar in the Roosevelt Hotel makes excellent Gin Fiz and Sazeracs. Hot Tin is a rooftop bar on the Ponchartrain Hotel in Uptown and has the best view of the city you'll find. Just be careful walking around the city because its very spotty when it comes to the good and bad parts of town. It can change within a block and you don't even realize you've stepped in a bad area. Stay away from the the 7th Ward, Lower 9th Ward, parts of the Marigny and Bywater, and Central City. Otherwise go crazy!
I've got plenty more recommendations if you want. Just moved away from NOLA last year and I'm excited to get to go back to see the Tigers.

Is "The Basement" still in the bottom of the Roosevelt Hotel? It was a disco when i was there for Mardi Gras in Feb 1970. We loved the Sazerac Bar and went here three times before getting on the bus back to Clemson.
Marched in Krewe of Iris Parade at 11:00am on Saturday morning. That's all I can tell you. Sworn to secrecy until death...

Good recommendations on the Sazerac Bar and the bars in the Pontchartrain Hotel, and I agree the better music is on Frenchman Street.

Play it your way, my friend. There are very good parties and music to be had NYE, but if the Flour de lis drop at midnight with thousands of folks you don't know is your gig, have at it. No judgement one way or another, just offering my opinion based upon my experience with crowds, Good luck and GO TIGERS!

Not sure I'm following a couple of you guys. We kick it at 7:45 CST on 1/1, so why is this an issue on discussing NYE, which is 12/31.
last year is not this year and the CFP committee realized what a dog-nut is was to play the semi's on NYE last year.

Our plan is to be in that crazy large crowd hoping to find lots of Tigers around. Thanks for all the ideas and warnings though. It is so easy to get distracted.
