Am I the only one that thinks this is way overdue? He should have won the Heisman instead of George Rogers in 1980.

Agree … long over due and well deserved. Ran track with Stump while @ The Citadel. He is now 2nd in franchise history for the Cardinals in all purpose yards behind L Fitzgerald. He is now the running backs coach for the Browns.

The only problem that kept him from winning it was that the Citadel was terrible. I got to watch Clemson defense shut down George Rogers live in Death Valley. People were chanting chicken George. If memory serves correct, that was an “olé” flip card game. Large cardboard posters where one side was orange and the other white. It was a pretty cool experience seeing 80,000 people yell OLÉ and flip from orange to white. Yup, I’m getting old! Lol

Did the valley hold 80,000 back then?

I think that I saw this game. He was a super star player and a super coach for years.

Rogers was pretty good too!

Was not even considered due to the size of the school. 2,000 in the entire corps. He was drafted in the 9th round. Yes, back in the day they had nine rounds. His big heart and drive was buried by the size of the school. (St. Louis) Cardinals go a deal with Stump.

His senior year we also had two (that I can remember) go into the USFL and Byron (Bones) Walker, WR, went to Seattle Seahawks where he was Steve Largent’s back up for two or three seasons.

Wouldn’t say we were terrible. We haven’t had another team like ‘81 and never will.

He is from a small town in South Georgia. the second oldest city in America. It has a Submarine base there now. the school encompasses the entire county making it one of the largest highschools in the state of Georgia. Rennie Moore went to the school as well. and I spent 25 years there in the Navy. Some may remember Rennie's coach at Camden. He coached at TL Hanna a few years ago. The Present coach at TL Hanna was an assistant of his at Camden County High, Jason Tone. Jason's wife was a softball coach for my daughter at Camden.

Yea. I was really surprised to hear he was just now being inducted. Just assumed he had been in for years.
