Stop it! The Heisman is a legitimate award.

Dec 11, 2016, 11:58 AM

What is all this whining about withdrawing Clemson players from future consideration, or that the award is no good, or it means nothing, or it is a joke. Watson did not win. I love Clemson and I love everything Watson has done but . . . let's be honest.

We were told, and rightly so, that this award was won in September. Now, here is where I will agree with many that the process for awarding the Heisman trophy needs to change. It needs to accurately reflect the entire season including the playoffs. But that does not mean the Heisman is a joke, etc. Heisman coached for us and even then he identified the players on his Clemson team who exhibited excellence.

It amazes me that some seem to have lost track of reality on this. And many sound butt hurt on something that we were told was over by the end of September.

Get over it! We have bigger fish to fry in the Ohio State Buckeyes and then possibly the "greatest Bama team ever."

Sorry to rain on your pity party but stay on target and let's support these young men on their awesome opportunity to win the Natty.

I love Clemson! I love Watson! I love the other members of our team! I love what we can do to finish this season! ALL IN!

GO TIGERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We agree he should have won it but the process

did not lend itself to him winning it. Too many votes cast early in the season with no way to change them. That is a fact too.

The fact is DeShaun ,not Lamar won the award that exemplifies
the Best Quarterback in the country, not the most popular player in the country.

the stat doesn't show "ESPN Top 10" plays... of which LJ had plenty. Dissapointed in the outcome but I will take playing on New Years for the chance to go the Natty vs DW4 getting a trophy that continues to loose its prestige... he is the QB of the year, won every QB award. I'll take it.

Please get over yourself and if it's not too much to ask, as soon as possible?! The whole process is corrupt and biased
Perpetrated by a bunch of people who have probably never played a sport??

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I said as much. I pointed out that the process was

Dec 11, 2016, 12:24 PM

flawed and biased based on the first of the season rather than the whole season. There needs to be a evaluation and changes made to how winners are selected.

Somewhat disagree. The award is not a joke but it has become one because of the political selection process and the involvement of ESPN on its findings.

No. There are legitimate frustrations.

Dec 11, 2016, 12:34 PM

They are allowing this award to be damaged by the typical ESPN over-processing and manipulation.

Lamar Jackson is a great athlete and perhaps would win the award regardless. But the Heisman committee needs to look at how this played out and realize that they are in peril of their prestigious award being diminished.

Were I on the committee, I would eliminate the journalist votes, prohibit voting until the day after the championship games, and maintain a steady communication with all the voters on the purpose and qualifications of the award, as well as weekly information on athletes that are proving worthy. Maybe then it would go to a player that isn't a QB or a RB.

I know, orange colored lenses and all....but the Heisman system is broken. A SEASON award shouldn't be based off of one month, or one game. It should be cumulative, Jackson proved only one thing this year, when the pressure is on, he crumbles. Not a Heisman, sorry. I don't care what kind of numbers you put up. Heisman winners don't lose to Kentucky, period.
