Honestly - how many players on our defense are legitimate

NFL prospects right now? How many can you honestly say will have a good shot at the NFL some day, based on their performance and demonstrated ability at Clemson thus far?

of an impact. Maybe he is, but his work is being overshadowed by the rest of the D's suckiness.

Ultimately yes. To me it is baffling how badly we have

missed on so many recruits. We are hurting at LB, but have 4 and 5-star, "can't miss" recruits that never see the field. Our DBs are even worse yet we have the same situation there. Mind boggling how we seem to have recruited well on the defensive side, gotten players that everybody else wanted and thought were great as well, only to have them ride the pine or otherwise never live up to expectations.
But of course, everything, after a point, falls squarely on the shoulders of the head coach.

Smiling Tiger - I respect most of your assessments tonight

IMHO Anthony and Crawford may have NFL chops ... maybe Blanks (though he looked lost and overmatched tonight) and Carlos Watkins though too early to tell.
I give FSU credit, but I am ambivalent about your statement we have to live with what we saw from our Defense tonight all year. It's time to put Cortez Davis, Lateek, Goodson, Shuey and anyone who can hit or tackle in our Defensive rotation - possible even play Nuk both ways on some key possessions. I believe this gives us the best chance to assess our personnel and get ready for SC and bowl games that count. FSU looks like they will cruise to ACC championship.

personnel on the field and trying new things and fighting until the end. I'm not talking about not wanting to get better, I'm talking about being realistic and understanding we have a serious talent deficiency, and while our players must fight and we must hope, there is no reason to expect things to get a lot better until the problem can be addressed.

I think it is wrong to assume that a poor defense means

the players are not talented.
I know it's not all about rankings, but you can look at each of these players' offer sheets, and it is clear they had/have talent.
We have as much talent as MOST schools out there...more than many...and not as much as a few. Yet, our defense has played as if we have the least amount of talent.
That performance is due to something else. Maybe it's the personnel mix. Maybe one or two players are not trying hard and are thus ruining the whole "defensive engine." Maybe we have one or two overrated players. Or maybe we have too difficult a scheme or a failure to ensure they know the fundamentals.
I don't know. But I don't think a lack of talent explains this.

If they're frequently wrong about a lot of our guys, maybe the common denominator isn't rivals.
