Spiking the ball question...

Serious question -

Near the end of the first half why weren't we able to spike the ball to stop the clock?

new rule competition committee added. Can't spike with 2 seconds or less which MAKES ZERO SENSE

New rule put in place 2 or 3 years ago.

Granted we never got it off anyway, so it wouldn't have mattered.

Actually, thinking about it, the rule didn't apply

We weren't called it for it (we were called for not having the offense set at time of spiking it).

The new rule ONLY applies if the clock is stopped with under 3 seconds left and will be restarted at being set (think 1st down stoppage, not going out of bounds stoppage). THEN you can't spike it, but you can on a running clock.

There's a time limit on spiking it and our 5th year qb didn't know to throw it away instead of taking the sack.

I suppose that 6th year material.
