I know it was a great opportunity for this year's secondary to get experience - but they were pretty darn bad. Were we missing someone in that game that is going to be playing this year?

No but Shelton Lewis got exposed a little in that game.
I'm hoping he pulls a Nate Wiggins and says never again but we shall see. No need to worry about the Kentucky game. Offenses sometimes just have better days against certain opponents

getting beaten so badly, he was trying to tackle receivers before the ball got there. I think he got a lot better, since the NFL doesn't waste high first round draft picks that often. I suspect the young guys from last year have also improved with another spring and off season under their belt.

I learned here that our backups were better than our starters last year.

We built so much depth all last year, that this year's team will be better - one of the best defenses in the country - despite losing several players to the NFL.

Barion Brown had a #### of a game and it’s not like O’Leary wasn’t familiar with Clemson. I’ve noticed over the last few years we struggle with speedy backs and receivers, but then again, most teams do. You can almost look at opposing teams and tell when we have really bad matchups. Example: against TN in the bowl game, I knew we’d struggle with Milton’s long ball. Our DBs struggled against it all year. Underneath we were decent, but the long passes killed us.
Brown was a matchup nightmare.

Makuba, Wiggins, Orhorhoro, and Trotter not playing hurt the defense that day.
Good news is the offense found a way to win the game and that gives me some hope going into 2024, especially the way they drove the ball to win the game.
I would have to go back and look at all the stats, but I believe that was Cade's best day passing and Brown, Williams, and Randall all made big plays.
You cannot read too much into a bowl game, but it was good to see the offense start improving toward the end of the season.

Clemson busted. Guys were running wide open. Not to mention J Lukus will be the stater opposite Terrell not Lewis. For some reason some fans, and maybe most, forget that ppl use to believe this was a developmental game. You know where guys get better year over year. Clemson went 4-4 their first 8 last year and not one single soul anywhere thought they would win out including the bowl game to finish the year. In a developmental game past performances aren't a predictor of future outcomes.

"trial by fire" against a very good QB/WR. Some help is on the way and maybe someone will make a Wiggins-like improvement since then.
Hopefully - it was just one of those games. I remember thinking after the SC game in 2018 - when they had guys running wide open in the secondary all day - that we were doomed in the playoffs.

glimpse at the defense showed that the guys who will be starting this year might be more than one step behind our starters.
The Wildcats had receivers running wide open all game and the QB missed some of them or it would have been worse.
Maybe it was just one of those games where the Offensive game plan had something we couldn't adjust to mid-game. (Like the TE shovel pass game, or the first few games of Wes' career where we couldn't stop a screen.)

Well, you have to remember that both Wiggins and Mukuba didn't play that game. And yes, I understand your point may be that neither of those guys is gonna be here this season, either. But when you remove the guys who were arguably the 2 best players in Clemson's secondary last year that suddenly mid-season, it's somewhat understandable that the younger guys who were behind them on the depth chart are gonna struggle some with handling full starting duties for the first time against a relatively good team. There are probably still going to be some mistakes and some growing pains with those guys, but I think what people are liking is that a lot of them at least showed good flashes of ability last year in their youth. You figure the talent and the ability is there, and with another full offseason of coaching and development from Mike Reed, this time knowing that they're gonna be expected starters from day 1, that ought to make a big difference in getting them ready to be less mistake prone. Especially for true freshmen. (Guys like Lewis, Oliver, Terrell, Barnes, Griffin, etc).

Can you do anything about it? If not, why be concerned?
The other answer is folks have bad days and sometimes the matchups do not work in our favor
