Someone explain to me why a foreign-born billionaire is telling Congress

What to do and dictating the bills they pass and telling members of Congress to back off of certain bills and making veiled threats and demanding no bills pass until Trump takes office. Along with spreading falsities about the bill's contents. AND apparently Republicans immediately obeyed Musk once he made his demands.
Why the #### is this even happening? Does this not concern everyone here that someone like Musk is making these demands on our government, even jumping to it before the president-elect weighs in.
You don't like the bill? That's fine. I don't either. That's completely immaterial here. The American people and Congress should be making these decisions, not a megalomaniac billionaire from another country who won't be affected in the slightest over this bill.
Man, y'all know I can't stand Trump but Trump should be running the office of the presidency. Not Musk.

I'd guess the outrage from voters who just elected these clowns to govern differently had more to do with it than anything else. Trump didn't support it and voters don't support it so why does the boogeyman Musk get all the credit for it now being DOA? I guess it's a nice narrative to spin but what's the proof he singlehandedly killed this terrible piece of "legislation"?

And Pub Congressmen who previously supported the bill started caving once Musk launched into attack.
Trump is president elect. I expect him to have something to say about the bill, good or bad. That's the way it works. Elon Musk shouldn't have any ####### place near this.
Clearly he's testing the waters to see how much Congress will obey him. He's a threat to America.
Don't be too quick to defend him; he'll over reach eventually in an area you don't like. Remember, he thinks he's living in a video game.

MAGA's main principles are anti-immigration and anti-elitism mixed with some evangelicalism pseudo-religious dogma. Cut to Trump and Musk--Trump you have an elitist, non-religious liar and sinner who has twice married an immigrant, and Musk, who was at a time, an illegal immigrant here who now is the richest man on Earth (largely through government subsidies) who is also non-religious and believes himself hyper-intelligent. Both men appear to be leading the Republican party and soon country and it makes one wonder how we got here, lol.

I think if you took a step out of your bubble for a minute, you would find peoples motivation for supporting Trump are in no way what you think they are. I’ll never understand the whole “we don’t know who was running the country” thing. Someone please help me understand this, who those people really are, and how the last administration was different from any other. Before anyone gets their knickers in a twist thinking I’m defending Biden, I’m not. I honestly just don’t get this conspiracy at all.
Like do you mean the cabinet? Do you mean the chief of staff? The VP, the president’s family? Lobbyists? Like seriously who are we referring to, and why was this just now a problem? I think people are just drawing incorrect conclusions after seeing the immediate temporal contrast between a president who never talks to the media or tweets and one who shares every thought in his head day and night.

The VP was very clearly….not capable, so it wasn’t her. Nobody knows who assembled that staff, you don’t think that’s a problem?

No see it would make a difference, because just saying “we don’t know who was in charge” just sounds like a half baked podcast conspiracy that everyone just repeats but nobody really knows what it means. Couldn’t it have just been like… old Joe Biden? I guess I’m just not into political fanfic or whatever, I don’t look at social media maybe I just don’t get it. He's invented a new department that has little teeth--Reagan tried something similar in the 80s. Musk can't cut much of what he wants to as it's required by law to fund it. He would need Congress to overturn the laws.
And if Musk wants to cut wasteful spending, what's he going to do with Trump, who proved he was one of the worst wasteful spending presidents in our history.
Read something for once.

Sure... Musk put out his take on this bad "CR" (really a bloated Omnibus) and was against it but that alone is not enough. It takes constituents who are fed up with this kind of garbage to call their reps and complain about this DC Swamp, business as usual porkulous bill - me being one of them.
Did Musk convince others through his tweets to call/email and complain to their Reps...I suspect so. But I also wouldn't discount there were some Republicans (and other Right wing commentators) already complaining against the bill before Musk weighed in. I'm also pretty sure that a lot of the folks contacting their Reps didn't really require Musk's disapproval of the bill to act as this CR was a bad bill and they could see it on their own accord.
Personally I found Nancy Mace's take on the bill to be much more valuable than anything posted by Musk. This video in particular was enlightening (soon to be followed by specific examples of the pork/garbage littered throughout the bill):
https://x.com/RepNancyMace/status/1869514227322605959
IMO, Trump and Vance weighing in on the bill did the most damage to this bill. Like it or not - the GOP is their Party now and when they publicly tubed the bill last night it's demise was all but a certainty.

I also oppose the bill. I get that many Americans do.
The point is that it had bipartisan support, whether we like it or not, and this ### clown Elon suddenly came in and chased them all off of it. He doesn't dictate our government, but he #### sure thinks he does now.

of us would consider "bipartisan".
I don't consider having a designated few from the Party power brokers (from both sides) putting together a 1500 page spending bill in secrecy then completely bypassing the committee process and the broader membership only to force it upon the rest of Congress as must pass legislation in the last hour as "bipartisan". It's empowering a political oligarchy through insider Government cronyism that disenfranchises most of our elected representatives from the process which ultimately gives us, the people, no voice in how our Government spends our taxpayer dollars. It is a detestable practice and it is time to stop it...now...

This foreign-born billionaire isn't dictating anything.
This foreign-born billionaire is bringing out into the open things that were hidden behind closed doors in the past and it's making those who vote for and actually dictate things uncomfortable.
We're $36 TRILLION in debt.

Maybe because Elon is a citizen and congress works for us? I think congress is in for a rude awakening. Voters spoke loud and clear and congress was already trying to ignore us. But right now a lot of them are saying “uh oh the peasants were serious”.

I’m just glad the elites and non-elected shadow handlers are being cast out of the executive branch next month.
In all seriousness, I honestly hope they can accomplish the task of cutting government spending, but 1) I’ll believe it when I see it and 2) I’m excited to see the response from the people who voted for this when the consequences arrive. Nobody likes government spending, right up until the things that benefit them are taken away. Nobody wants illegals until chicken thighs are $20/lb. Nobody wants FEMA funded until their house floats down a river. Nobody wants regulations until their bank collapses and their accounts disappear. I would be concerned that the needs and wants of the common man may exactly not be in the forefront of the minds of the billionaires that are about to come into power.

Not Musk.
Hey man, maybe we should just be happy it's not Putin calling the shots in America. Wait, wait, it could be him next week. D a m n.

That someone is finally, Nancy Mace, showing how the pork is made and the fat that is introduced. Outrage ensues and people demand their representatives be held accountable. They are held accountable and you cry.
Biden and Harris are still in office. Maybe you place your anger on them for being so ineffective

Might be because he’s the head of the department of government efficiency. Interest costs just surpassed defense and Medicare spending for the first time. Hopefully this is a sign of things to come. We can all agree that changes are long overdue.
