They did not have the most important category where we were number 1 in the nation...
FG Blocks allowed.
Just having some pre-CFP chuckles.... Go Tigers !!!

What happened to our D? All those folks fussing about it weren't making stuff up. I truly didn't know we'd gotten this weak.

Sacks, tackles for loss, interceptions and fumbles recovered are a strong combo.

We're getting better defensively. Sammy Brown has really come on of course, but so has Ashton Hampton, giving us a pretty strong duo at corner. We're giving up yards, but we're pressuring the passer better and taking the ball away from people.
We've played some pretty mobile QBs this year and had our struggles against them, just like everybody else, but Ewers isn't one of those guys. Get a few more guys healthier and I like our chances to slow down Ewers/Manning and the Texas O.

They've had some attrition at RB, but that Wisner fella looked good behind all their injuries.
Reminded by the Pitt game, and that RB Desmond Reid was no joke.
Hope we're just lit, playing with house money, and go on a tear!

1 Offensive plays going for a loss
2 Run defense
3 Special teams across the board
2&3 should be obvious to anyone that was paying attention. Number 1 was a surprise, but explains why we stall. Those negative plays are so hard to overcome once they put you behind schedule

I'm always a glass half full guy. Turnover margin and first downs look good. Those are important. I remember when we couldn't get a first down to save our life.
However, I agree with the defense needing to step it up. Not sure who all we lose next year, but hopefully our young talent on D will really step up.

Looking at where the Tigers landed within the conference in each of those categories, you'd never guess that team won the conference title!

Look at where we ranked nationally in several Offensive categories and our ACC rank. We were Top 20-25 nationally and 4-5 in ACC. Were the ACC teams that good offensively or that dad defensively? Some defensive stats that have us highly rated are also 4-5th in conference.

Just Tackle the ball carrier on first contact! That is all I got to say about that!
