Some postives from Saturday

Gideon Davisdson is looking like his offer sheet. He finally found open grass and broke off a few nice runs, and got around 50 in the air. His Pass protection is advanced for a true freshman. Spiller has done a good job here, as he has with most of our backs. it is easy to forget he put 2 RBs into the NFL in back-to-back seasons, I am not sure that has happened much at Clemson. it should be a good selling point when getting another back to replace Randall out of the portal.

TJ Moore flashed what we saw in his HS film, a kid with exceptional open field running ability and eyes in the back of his head. His route running has vastly improved over the course of the year.

The O-line played much better, but then again it was Duke.

Antonio Williams is healthy, and carrying this offense, and he rarely drops the ball. He still plays like he has something to prove.

Cade's escapability is why he is started, despite playing through a high ankle sprain. To call him tough owuld be an understatement. He can avoid the edge rush, cough, DEs running free off right tackle are nullified by his athleticism.

Denhoff has made huge strides this year, I had given up hope on him, but he is solid. Development at end has been good under Rumph.

Ashton Hampton reminds me of a Venables era CB, tall, rangy, and plays with an attitude..

Other than getting cute at the goal line, Riley opened up the playbook a bit. I think we scored on 7 of 9 drives at one point, but again, Duke. I thought he called a good game.

Redzone offense is vastly improved since last year, and mostly over the last 4 games. We will see how it holds up next week.

Major issue with Spiller is not getting quality recruits. If he was great at developing, why is EZ-E and Adams still 3rd and 4th string? Why are we converting a WR to RB? Although that was a great move overall since our back field is not great.

I was super gald to see Gideon on the field and looking good but I am not sold on Spiller as a coach.

I dont know what all is broken but there are a lot of things broken on this team. I was glad to see Cade have a great game. There were at least 3 blatant drops or he would have had a spectacular day. We did not lose because of Cade or his injury.

GD is going to be special.

I feel like he could have come in earlier in the season, but AR has been one of few bright spots on the offense so I get the trust.

I can't help but wonder what a two back set with AR and GD could look like. Both can catch the ball and both have open field speed.

Dabo was asked about a 2-back set and his response was "who do you take off the field?". Then asked if it was Patt-Henry, Moore, Williams?

He has somewhat of a point but then we also had Cole T in on 11 plays, those 11 plays might be a start??

I said that very early in the season. Would love to see those 2 in the backfield together, but which WR do you take out? With Wesco injured now, that might be a little easier to do.

Agree, he is not an elite recruiter, but..

Shipley, Mafah, Davidson? But yeah, he has missed on some elite backs that went to SEC programs, same old same old.

Burton Burns steered ETN our way, he was not on Elliot's radar. He was committed to LSU, but waiting for a bama offer, and they did not have a spot, so Burton Burns steered him our way, most likely 'cause he did not want LSU to get him.

But what Spiller has done is develop the guys we did land.

He did a fantastic job with Shipley, who was a one-trick pony coming out of HS, outrunning guys to the perimeter. Spiller turned him into a between-the-tackles back in a hurry. Mafah took some time, but now he is on the Cowboys roster. Again, can't remeber when we sent backs to the NFL in consecutive years. The position has been a sore spot at Clemson for a while. Burns got us Spiller and James Davis, but there was a reason Bama opoached him from us.

And it is going to be pretty bad optics to fire a guy who is in the Clemson ROH. Swinney has backed himself into a corner here; I think he is coaching at Clemson next year. There is another former player coaching defense that has no business on the sidelines, we should start there.

Dont forget Jay Hayneshe probably would have started

If not for the injury.
Randall has been fine at RB…and if Davidson can get the carries over these last games, that bodes well for the future.
RB…while not our best position at the moment…..has not been our biggest issue.

Biggest issues are OL..QB play for much of the year, a defense that is inexplicably bad, and questionable coaching/playcalling.

Other positive of this game:

Dabo finally realizing he needs to fire Tom Allen?

LOL really? with 100% wes goodwins recruits and wg's 'elite' training? With LESS than one season in the books, I think it is silly to fire him. I think dabo gives everyone a minimum of 2 years - which makes sense.

Systemically, this is still the wes goodwin defense. most of those guys had 2 or 3 full years under goodwin.

I'm not happy with the defense at all or TA but the man deserves a fair shake, let's see who and what he can recruit and do with those recruits.

Re: O Line, I still don't think Linthicum played all that great at center. He can't run well and it looked to me like he was out of position on a lot of plays that required pulling.

It's a shame we don't have the depth to play someone else at center.

Great post. In the misery of the defense (and season as a whole) it can be easy to overlook how great the offense finally looked Saturday. In all aspects.

Another one is that more "new money" fans that found Clemson around 2013 are jumping off the bandwagon.

Maybe some of us will get to move into better seats once they drop IPTAY & they all of a sudden become Indiana fans because they watched Hoosiers on TBS when they were a kid

I did not see Jack Smith on your list. It makes me question the validity of your entire post.
