The thing that bothers me about the whole thing is if the Universities cannot be involved in the NIL stuff, why in the hell is it ok for employees of said universities to come out with stuff like this? Day didnt just poop that number out, it came from somewhere right? Saban didnt just poop out the numbers he was talking about last year right? To me that is a clear cut sign of a university participating in the NIL.

I agree with your opinion about Day's involvement. It appears that he has put himself in the position of an agent between players and the source of money. As I understand the NIL requirements, that's not allowed.

To use his analogy about driving at or above the speed limit, it seems to me that he's speeding and should be pulled over.

Yea, NIL isn’t going to hurt Clemson…people with their

Head in the sand …….

Maybe but Tiger Impact has already raised over 7 million

I believe.

That greaseball in Ohio is just diving headfirst into the race to the bottom.

for saying a school like usc is going to flourish with nil and we will suffer..meanwhile we are in the down fall..racking up 3-4 star guys while the top teams pull in 5 star guys in droves is goign to eventually catch up to us..it already started to show cracks on offense last season.

Re: i lost count how many times i got ragged on

Does NIL prevent injuries?

cuz that is the only way our offense would have looked any better this season.

Unless you are under the impression we should have planned in advance for the possibly that 6 scholarship WRs, both starting TEs, and 3/5 starting OL would be on the injury report.

Kind of stretch to think that would have been possible.

our offense looked like ### before the injuries***

Oklahoma State needs $13M, or $13?

I'm afraid that's a VERY long distance call. And the area code may be very HOT.

That's not that bad. I am sure they have plenty wealthy alumni. Probably a couple billionaires in the mix as well.

Jun 2, 2022, 6:48 PM

Exactly. They can get $13 mil just from the Ohio transplants in the Low Country.

Some part of me thinks that this outrageous NIL money

Jun 2, 2022, 4:02 PM

being thrown around is going to eventually settle back down to reality. Prime example from the article is Quinn Ewers who supposedly fleeced $1.4 million in NIL money from some group but never played a meaningful down for Ohio State. Same goes for that unnamed QB in the 2023 recruiting class (probably the Manning kid) getting an $8 million payday before he ever takes a snap in a college game. It is simply insane (not to mention bad business) to spend that kind of investment on kids that have yet to prove themselves on the college football field. Money don't grow on trees and while wealthy alumni will spend graciously on their alma maters, they don't like pi$$ing away money either and expect a return on their investment.

I just get the feeling that a lot of these "big money" guys are going to eventually sober up and stop throwing these $millions at recruits just because they are highly ranked by some recruiting guru. I just don't know that enough people will be willing to keep pushing this kind of cash at unproven recruits - especially when that same cash is going to be needed to keep the guys on the current roster that are proven commodities.

No doubt.

These other idiots are falling all over themselves seeing who can ruin their program the fastest.
It’s going to be hilarious to watch it all play out.

The unnamed recruit u speak if that’s reportedly getting an 8 million dollar NIL deal is Nicholaus Lamaleava. And I’m pretty sure I read somewhere that he is actually related to DJ U. There is no way Clemson can keep up with the kind of ridiculous spending some of these ppl are doing.we are just not a big enough alumni base. All we can hope to do I resonate with a certain Clemson type recruit base that value long term success & being molded as great men as well as great athletes. Instead of the instant gratification. Go Tigers

I guess even the bag men need to be coached up

Jun 2, 2022, 4:04 PM

"If the speed limit's 45 miles per hour, and you drive 45 miles per hour, a lot of people are going to pass you by," Day said. "If you go too fast, you're going to get pulled over."
So he wants his boosters to cheat more than the average team but not quite enough to draw the wrong attention to what they are doing.

that OcryO State is using NIL money as a recruiting tool to not only attract but retain players?

Sounds like the athletic version of a Jerry Lewis telethon if you ask me. Begging the Columbus business community for donations. I liked Jerry’s kids a lot better.

Jun 2, 2022, 5:07 PM [ in reply to So Cryin' Day effectively admits... ]

there is no paper trail linking any of it DIRECTLY TO THE SCHOOLS, anything is fair game. That loophole is what USC, Texas, Texas A&M, etc are exploiting, with their huge war chests.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The thing is ... how much is a championship worth?

Jun 2, 2022, 6:13 PM

Also, should alum and students think of gifted full scholarship athletes as equals who share a love for Clemson University or as hired-help who always have their hand out for more freebies?

I’m in agreement in an earlier post that mentioned paying this money to kids that have not even stepped foot on campus. Thinking about it that way blows my mind. In the end they get nothing in return unless your existence is justified by your teams wins in a given year. Sad a lot of great causes money like this could do for some people. Unless these kids have some smart people around them some may not know where most of it went by the time they get out of school.
