Its stuff like this, not "science" or anything else that keeps me from getting the shot.

I initially did not get the shot because I dont like needles and I am generally healthy under 40 years old. Once it became an "us vs. them" scenario and you are stupid you got the shot and you are stupid you didnt get the shot you are going to die, I checked out. I read study after study and opinion after opinion but to me it really seems that its all political and everything is contradictory. Lets assume I was to go get the shot today. I would have to wait a month to get the second dose and it still wouldn't be adequate to "protect" me from Omicron. Then I have to wait to be able to get the booster. With as fast as it supposedly is spreading it seems I am more likely to get it before I can be protected in any way so what is the point?

A vaccine isn't going to 100% prevent someone from getting whatever virus it's meant to treat. That would require your immune system to recognize something the exact second you come into contact with it and deal with it. The flu vaccines work in the same type of way where the goal isn't really to prevent someone from getting the flu, but rather to hopefully make the symptoms of the flu mild if the person catches it.

The immune system needs time to recognize the virus and then make a proper response. Think about it like having a gun in your home for protection. Having the gun isn't likely going to prevent someone from breaking into your home, but the hope is the gun will protect your family and property should someone do so. Think about the virus as the intruder breaking into your home downstairs, the gun as the vaccine, and you as your immune system. You're upstairs and hear someone break in downstairs and you grab your gun to chase them away, retain them until the police show up, shoot them, etc... But before you do so you have a broken door and maybe they broke a lamp or something by knocking it over in the dark. Those are the mild symptoms as opposed to the risk of a much more serious outcome had you not had the gun present.

Next, think of the people who still end up with serious complications or death even after getting the vaccine as the person who has a gun for protection but is caught by surprise before they can grab the gun or maybe they lose the shootout with the intruder. Obviously, having a gun for protection doesn't 100% prevent something bad from happening just as the vaccine doesn't, but it does improve your chances.

You also see people have accidents with guns where maybe a child accidently shoots themselves or some other type of shooting accident occurs. That to me is similar to the small percentage of people who have side effects from the vaccine. I think most people who support gun ownership wouldn't let those few cases or the fact that there's still a chance that they won't be able to protect themselves or their loved ones from owning guns.
