Tiger Football has a lot of $$

It does not have enough to compete on a Top Ten level in this new era.
There are not enough billionaire alum to keep up with many schools.
The alumni/fan base is not nearly as large as what many schools have.
IPTAY got us there when there were a few rules in place, but those are gone.

Now there is a huge disparity between SEC/Big Ten and Tigers as to conference money.
There is a huge difference in NIL money for Tigers and many.

In this new era, simply playing in the portal will not be enough without very deep pockets. The best players in the portal are there for --MONEY.

Tigers have a talented team right now and will have one next season.
Going forward, Tigers will not get the level players teams with more $$ have as $$ talks.
That is already happening.

We will still be able to field good teams, but "great" ---> nope!

I will not be looking for a new team. Expectations will have to adjust for Tiger fans.

I've been a Tiger fan going all the way back to Frank Howard, Buddy Gore, Wayne Mass, and wide receiver Charlie Waters, just to name a few. I was a fan then, and if this greed that NIL insanity has brought about causes the Tigers to drop into a lower class with the likes of Newberry, or whoever, I will still be a Tiger fan. I will go see them play when I can, and I'll drop a few bucks when I can. It's a lot of fun cheering for an elite team, but if they cease to be elite, it won't mean I love them any less. I just hope it never comes to that.

We have, and can afford elite coaches, so I am sure we will have a good team for years to come.

#### NO! I refuse to believe the Tigers will ever be relegated to second tier. It just makes me sick seeing programs like the coots, Missouri, Vandy, Rutgers, Maryland, etc, all getting the big money. All for being perennial doormats for the big boys to beat up every year.

Clemson athletics was #13 among all public schools for total revenue in 2022-23. Georgia at #5 only brought in 7% more money than Clemson.

IPTAY is one of the most successful college athletics fundraising programs in the country, bringing in over $70 million in donations in each of the last 5 years. 2023 was a record-setting year for IPTAY, with over $135 million donated.

Clemson will never be the richest school in the country, but we have the money to be elite in football. We might need to redirect more of it to the players, though. We also need to find a way into the SEC or B1G before the media revenue gap becomes too large to overcome.

IPTAY money is tax deductible. NIL is not. Rich donors want the tax deduction. Remember they are completely separate.

You are over-simplifying the situation. Your overall athletic revenue number is accurate...BUT...only $76.9 million of that $195 million in athletics revenue was football revenue, and Clemson spent $66.8 million on the football program. So where is the $23 million minimum revenue sharing coming from?

https://bvmsports.com/2024/03/15/how-clemson-football-performed-financially-in-fy2023/

The new "revenue sharing" or how much Clemson will need (minimum) to pay players is projected to be $23 million. That is for the new big boy D1 league that is about to split off. So here's the rub with your argument. That $23 million is reported to be on average 22% of the top college programs football revenue. That means on average the top schools are projected to be bringing in $104.5 million annually in football revenue, which is $27.6 million more than Clemson has to play with. The big difference?...the SEC and B1G media deals pay that much more and then some. And that is ONLY a minimum or starting point as Dan Radakovich points out in the CBS article on this. Heck, Ohio State spent $25 million ONLY on transfer portal recruiting this year. This is why Clemson and FSU are in court with the ACC to get out now. They cannot stay competitive in football without raiding revenue from other athletic programs as this pro-league unfolds. Clemson and FSU would be forced to raid revenue from non-football sports right now to cough up the $23 million.

that's quite surprising. I would have guessed Clemson was further down the list, by a lot, b/c of the relatively small alumni base.

Iptay was first formed as a secret organization by Dr Fike to give $10 a year in 1933.
It has been extremely successful.
I became a member in 1964 and remain one.

I do believe IPTAY has been very important and will continue to be that.

I have worked hard in life and do OK. I can't write them the type checks guys who support some schools can.
For example TAM started a $90 mill campaign and had it all by noon. Clemson can't do that.

Your posts get more acrid day to day. Why? I think Jedi is a phyco analyst, tmail him for help.

we have a few in the family and the IPTAY/Foundation folks are always dialing for dollars asking them to come off the hip for more.

They're all pretty tired of it. It's transformed into something that has all the warmth and charm of a Russian beet farm in February.

It's the seedy underbelly most don't see -- NIL is now just one huge money grab, and it's absolutely shredding the fabric of what made college football a lot of fun in the first place.

I mean, we still dig it. But ... it's certainly become more transactional.

Schools will begin paying players directly once the House settlement is finalized and approved. Hopefully NIL becomes less of a factor at that point. The schools already have enough money to pay the players, though. They just need to accept that they will have less money to spend on gold-plated facilities and overpaid do-nothing administrators and assistant coaches.

for a lot of programs.

But programs like Texas and aTm will never have to change a thing. That oil money's gonna come through in a huge way for them and the SEC's more than happy to ride that money for the next decade.

This STILL gives me the lulz:

We need to invest what little we have in titanium umbrellas. If the sky falls we might make enough money to buy some good players and git rid of all these deadbeat 5* we recruited.

I'm not so sure what to believe on that subject anymore. You do realize these kids could change their minds....and mirror a mass exit by either changing their verbal commitments or transfer somewhere else.
