Also, his daughter is an executive officer of a NGO known as ‘Authentic,’ which is a digital messaging firm for the Democrat party.
Loren Merchan was instrumental in raising ~ $93,000,000 for Democrat politicians, including Check Schumer. BTW, that $93MM figure was before the Trump ‘hush money’ trial had begun.
Also, Ms. Merchan gets a sizable commission from the money raised for the ‘messaging’ campaigns that Authentic arranges for the Democrat candidates. I think that Authentic’s commissions are in the ~ 10% range. Loren Merchan is getting rich, as anti-Trump messaging is manna from heaven as far as Authentic’s professional services go.
^^^^ is why Trump decries the corruption of the judge in this case. He’s got an argument.

I'm just observing the spectacle of a compromised presidential candidate with extreme inability to shut his F'ing mouth long enough to be tried in a court of law, and his supporters thinking not following court ordered mandates to stop intimidating those involved thinking this has a single thing to do with 1st amendment rights. DJT is actually strengthening the same court of opinion that had people holding their nose to vote for Biden just to get that idiot out of office.
Get a speeding ticket, go to court, show your #### and talk over the judge. Let that judge tell you to hush and you keep carrying on. I'll GUARANTEE you you'll be led away in handcuffs and put into a jail cell, and ain't nobody involved with give 2 Fcks about who voted for who and who donated to what.

Wonder what happened?
‘Legitimate’ news outlets started writing articles warning that Trump / hush money judge Juan Merchan was leaving the entire case open to interlocutors appeal (I.e., a type of appeals process that interrupts the normal proceedings of an active lawsuit that may end up in a dismissal of the charges). This ‘leaving the case open to interlocutory appeal’ is from the judge’s refusal to gag outrageous public comments from star witnesses Michael Cohen and Stephanie Clifford (aka Stormy Daniels) in contrast to the broad (not specifically defined) gag order which he had imposed on Trump.
Since these articles came out, Judge Merchan has been treading more carefully re threats of jailing Trump. Yet, if he suddenly stops altogether with the gag order ‘violations,’ then Judge Merchan’s original decision to implement the Trump gag order will look illegitimate.
Making matters even more tricky for Judge Merchan, the trial thus far has revealed major weakness to the prosecution, specifically from the testimony of the prosecution’s key witnesses thus far. And Michael Cohen’s testimony didn’t even start until today; the prosecution team (which includes Judge Merchan as a tacit member) is struggling to weave their case against Trump together.
I’m trying to remember if CNN was among the ‘legitimate’ News sources. Anyways,it sure looks like Judge Merchan’s handlers have instructed him to cool it on the gag order stuff.
(*). To be fair to several of TNet’s TDS’ers, they opined that the Trump / hush money lawsuit was stupid and would likely end up benefitting Trump moreso than hurting him. They may turn out to be right.

Unfair and rigged. Cohen and Daniels aren't doing that.
His most recent:
"That jury was picked so fast — 95% Democrats. The area's mostly all Democrat. It's a very unfair situation, that I can tell you."
In social media posts, he wrote:
Cohen and Daniels are "two sleaze bags who have, with their lies and misrepresentations, cost our Country dearly!"
Among others. Not only is a judge trying to prevent potential jurors from being influenced by the posts made before the selection, but he's mainly trying to prevent attacks and harassments on them and their families which we know crazy ### Trumpers will do.
The judge has told him to stop trying to stir up his base against the court and the jurors, and Trump keeps defying him. What else is the judge supposed to do?

^^^^ is an example of what the law refers to as the ‘hecklers’ veto.’
Hecklers’ veto pertains to comments or actions from people not connected to a lawsuit or a trial that are unpleasant or that upset people who are part of the lawsuit / trial. Threats from anyone are a criminal matter, and the remedy for such threats is to report said threats to the court, which in turn assigns law enforcement to investigate, and in which the ‘threatening entity’ gets arrested and convicted.
Hecklers’ veto is not sufficient grounds, by itself, is not grounds to gag someone. Neither is the past history of a defendant or plaintiff sufficient to justify a gag order.
(This ‘Trump gag’ isn’t necessarily targeted to silence Trump’s speech about witnesses. Members of the judicial staff are also included, as well as family members of judges who make enormous money from publicizing the latest ‘get Trump’ news, are also shielded from criticism via the gag orders in Trump.)
(*). The gag orders that have been imposed upon Trump in each of the NY cases are ‘justified’ by tautological reasoning.
(1) Everyone knows that Trump intimidates witnesses, and so his speech must be gagged at the start of a trial. (2) Because Trump has been gagged so often, witnesses are afraid that he will intimidate them if he isn’t gagged.
This is akin to the self-feeding earthworm; the earthworm pewps, then eats his own pewp. The earthworm pewps again, and then eats his own pewp again.

When a judge tells people not to talk publicly about a case, especially if they're known for their intimidation and especially if they have a mob of idiot, blind followers, and that person refuses to comply, punishments will be dealt accordingly.
Again, we know the motive is that y'all want him to be able to intimidate jurors and stir up his mob.

Honest question
3
May 6, 2024, 12:20 PM
|
|
If: 1) A defendant in a case repeatedly refuses to obey a judge's instructions (and in this case completely normal and standard instructions)
2) The judge fines the defendant for his behavior, but that fine (while the statutory max) does nothing to change the defendant's behavior
What would you have the judge do? Because on paper, the lack of a threat of effecting the defendant's actual freedom, would really seem to imply that a rich defendant could repeatedly and without any real recourse thumb their nose at the judge.
I thought yall were all pro-law-and-order?

There’s some nuance regarding the situation in which Trump’s popularity increases if he spends time in jail (even if ‘time’ is only a few hours).
If Trump gets a guilty verdict in the federal election interference suit, then his popularity will decrease.
If Trump gets a guilty verdict in the ‘hush money’ suit, then his popularity is not expected to change much. HOWEVER, if Trump gets time in the pokey during the ‘hush money’ suit … especially so if the trial ends up in a hung jury … then Trump gets a big boost.
(*). Sending Trump to jail for a gag order violation isn’t considered to be advantageous to TDS’ers desired political outcome, according to pollsters.

You can bet your ### if there were even the tiniest window of a case, they would have brought it by now
But their isn't and this is the best they have.
And they are now stuck with a bunch amateur prosecutors making unforced errors and political judges that are opening all sorts of opportunities for appeal

Because a judge in New York city is making below the poverty line (thanks to Joe Biden), and $35 bucks is a big deal to him
