not saying we should keep Goodwin, thats CDS’s decision, but a new coordinator with a new system usually takes some time to gel and work…. Given the window of Cade ad the offense gelling, is there more upside to getting new DC or keep continuity with existing staff?

Is it a situational decision, or long term, have to do it now? I think we should get new blood in and take our chances on the disruption, greater upside for the defense in the long run…..

What y’all think….

Pull the plug, install the new D, and get ready to have a great season in 2025...

To me defense is a lot of effort and intensity while still playing fundamentally sound… since Wes took over it’s like they took over his chill personality and not the same intensity we saw under Venables with the swarming to ball and much much better tackling especially in space… I miss seeing 4-5 guys around the ball about every play . I know that may be bc of the lack of depth bc of the Portal and nil era also but I think we can do better… wes was also over the LBs and that group has not developed at all not near like they did under Venables. I think we hire a proven dc and it’ll be someone known for that group or we bring on an actual lb coach as well

I agree about the lack of intensity. You do have to remember though that offenses are spreading things out. That’s why you see most of the top 25 defenses going to a 4-2-5. And with only two linebackers you have less guys “gang” tackling.

Why would you want to maintain continuity in something that has deteriorated every year? The defense could suffer for the reasons you mentioned, but the data shows keeping Goodwin almost guarantees it.

You cannot have an ex-DC working under a new DC. That will never work.
