I personally like that we spent the money on an established guy at a position of need. Although Harris and Young looked like great athletes potentially, Safeties are a dime a dozen. I also think we'll get more bang for our buck with Denson over Herbert. Paying for a more known commodity was definitely the way to go. We immediately got better and we've got a few extra dollars to give Cade, TJ Parker, and Antonio (if he doesn't go pro) raises based on their level of play this year to keep them in the fold.

I don’t think that the NIL money allocated for most of our HS recruits impacts the NIL money that gets allocated for most portal transfers.

I also doubt that Clemson typically ‘wins’ the singular aspect of NIL bidded $ for high stature, widely recruited HS recruits or portal candidates.

Not that Clemson doesn’t offer competitive NIL $.

Rather, I suspect that Clemson emphasizes an overall ‘value proposition’ to recruits & portal candidates. Not just NIL $, which is the shortest term benefit, but also our history of developing players which come to Clemson as opposed to replacing them with portal players if indeed a portal prospect looks like an upgrade vis a vis the incumbent player. Paw Journey is another demonstrable value proposition variable; look at the number of former players which are on the athletic staff (weighted heavily towards our FB program). These non-NIL aspects are powerful value proposition variables.

At the end of the day, sure, Clemson has a NIL budget. I suspect that, 8n the event of a screamingly great prospect (in the HS ranks especially), Clemson’s athletic dept managers reach out to our big money supporters and see if they’ll fund the ‘outside of the established budget’ extra money to be able to make the NIL aspect competitive.

So opines one of TNet’s couch potato FB experts. Got to go. My break is over. McNuggets need to be cooked.
