So, what’s different this year with the BB team?

5

Jan 22, 2023, 8:17 PM

They are much better than we’ve seen for years.

I don’t know much about BB, but from what I’ve seen, there are 3 things that stand out to me.

1. PJ hall is much better this year. He’s stronger and shoots better. I think he was hurt a lot last year, but this year he is a beast.
2. Hunter Tyson has become a great shooter.
3. Galloway seems to be the link we were missing for so many years.

What do I guys think?

IMO...having a lot of veteran players

Foster = Senior
Galloway = Senior
Hall = Junior
Hemmenway = Senior
C. Hunter = Junior
Tyson - Senior

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

Probably a big part of it.

Also, it seems like the ACC is the worst it’s been in forever.

NOT to take anything away from our team., but if duke and UNC are down, sure makes things easier.

That's a big part of it too.***

Galloway has added a lot of experience. But it's a team of "old " guys :) Lots of teams have had a good year when the nucleus are seniors or upper classman. This is nothing new.

Yes, the veteran aspect is huge. Possibly the best overall, up and down the roster shooting free throws as others mentioned has won some games.

This is the first team I remember that Brad has had that can play inside out. We've been on a tear since he went to a 3 post, 2 guard line-up after the Loyola game.

Galloway - that kid can play. May be a blessing that other commit backed out of us. Can't remember his name. Should be a deep run in both the acc tournament and the ncaa. Imo, we'll end up a 5 seed.

Spot on Clemgal. I have been saying all along the biggest differences have been free throw shooting and playing more of the high/low post game. Getting more higher percentage shots, even on the 3 pointers. When the defense collapses on the post, the kick out for a 3 results in a much better long range shot opportunity than you get when you just pass the ball around the perimeter and someone launches a 3 without the ball ever getting inside.

My observation as well. I cannot remember Clemson ever shooting this good from the line.

He played in 8 games this year at Michigan before tearing his ACL. He’s out for the rest of the season.

He wasn’t very impressive before the injury. Scored 7 points per game in 26 minutes per game, on just 31% shooting from the floor. He also contributed 2.8 assists and 3.8 rebounds.

Chase Hunter has been a better PG this year, so I think it worked out fine for us.

This team seems capable of making free throws and clutch

shots in the last couple minutes of games, both of which have been problems in the past.

Definitely agree on the free throws. Overall shooting better and getting better ball movement so not as much one pass and shoot the 3 type offense as we’ve done in previous years. Just playing harder and stronger inside helps too.

Strength of schedule 72. Eight quad 4 games but only 6-2 which hurts our net ranking at 59.

Only four quad 1 games.

Check, check and check plus our schedule has not been one of the hardest we have played so far. The schedule gets tougher and the injury bug has bitten.

Brad finally had an epiphany …. that to win you have to have offense.

Class of ‘71. Went through “rat season” and glad I did.

Experienced players. Duke & UNC are down right now. Favorable schedule with only one game against the top teams like UVA, Pitt, Miami, Duke, and UNC.

More guys with offensive skills that can score, and enough

experienced players who know and have bought into the system and can lead.

With Hunter Tyson, it's much more than being a great shooter

He's really upped his all round game, and has become a terrific rebounder and passer. Also a decent ball handler for a 6'8" guy...He's a great team leader

Team chemistry. No more cancers on the team like David Collins. A lot of experience playing together because we have Very few transfers except for Galloway is well respected and a mentor to his younger teammates. Young’s guys fit in great with the vets. This team has the best chemistry of any team since our sweet 16 run and it shows in their selflessness in their play. Selfless player = winning basketball

More Clemson shots are falling and less of the opponents shots are falling.

One new element this year that I had high hopes for

1

Jan 23, 2023, 9:09 AM

is Brad's old assistant duo from his more productive coaching days prior to Clemson. Billy Donlon in particular seems to be something of a Brad Whisperer - he stays glued to Brownell during games and timeouts. We seem to be keeping our composure much better in challenging stretches and staying loose during closing moments and I can't help but feel that Donlon is a factor there.

I'm wondering if Brad didn't make it to the top of the Eiffel Tower after all while on that summer trip? He said in an interview he was afraid of heights and wasn't going to do it but with the shift in team mojo I can't help but think that maybe he took it on after all. This was as hot of a seat year as he's had here, with a pretty clear directive from the AD on what was needed, so the more to add to the mix on the motivation side the better.

Go Tigers! Beat the Bees!

I thinks its because they hired a GOOD offensive coordinator

Jan 23, 2023, 10:20 AM

I don't which of the coaches that is but whatever he is doing, keep it up !

This TigerNet Journalist has long called for this, and they listened. Coach B KNOWS "D", and the "O" coach knows "O", and its perfect synergy.

Sorry for acronyms, I broke my left hand playing golf, yes its possible Typing is awkward with one hand.
