Last year, a lot of the portal haters here lived to badh Colorado and Coach Sanders for his use of the portal and cited his supposed lack of success as evidence if why the portal was a bad thing.
Now Colorado is 5-2, not a peep about Colorado here, and now the switch to bashing FSU is going full steam.
It's ludicrous. It just makes the people that did it look silly.

Colorado beat anybody? Not ready to say they are now successful but if you think so it’s all good.
Outliers in the way they do business that look good: OSU, Oregon, Ga, Tennessee, Texas. The portal and the buying of players is really working out. They have always been good but now it is basically a guarantee in today’s world of corrupt collectives.
To each their own Bluff but to get on here and start a thread about the success of Colorado is a bit ludicrous. Whatever fits your narrative!

intend to die on on this site, and that's fine. We all have our little pet projects. But your rolling out a very common and very boring tactic of lumping a "large" group of Tigernetters into DS haters, attributing it to his use of your favorite tools, and then mocking them.
That's disingenuous.
There are a ton of reasons to dislike DS. Some don't like him from his playing days. Some don't like him for his flashy, unapologetic persona. Some don't like him because of the comments he has made. Some don't like him for the way he addressed the Colorado players that were already there, or the fact that he hacked the team to pieces. Some are a bit tired of getting an average Colorado team in our faces more than normal because there coach is a celebrity. And yeah, some don't like his brash approach to NIL and the Portal.
It can be any one of those things...or any number of different things I didn't list. It can be some of column A and some of Column J. But that doesn't fit your narrative because your goal is to tout your vision of college football, so any negative feelings any posters have about DS has to be reduced to "Ha ha...you hate NIL and the TP but now Colorado isn't terrible."
If you were being sincere, you would address whatever Tigernetter actually, specifically said that DS's team will not be any good because of his approach to NIL or the TP. I have no doubt they are there.
Also, if anyone switched from mocking Colorado to mocking FSU, it's not unfair. The point is to highlight the fact that the transfer portal is not synonymous with team improvement, and in fact, quite the opposite can be the case. And in the case of FSU, since they were touted all offseason as the ones that have officially replaced Clemson as the ACC's King, you'll excuse Clemson fans for highlighting their...shortcomings.

There is 1 team in the country who could have used the portal in 2024, but did not (Clemson). Clemson is currently in the Top 10.

There are 134 FBS teams. 3 are military academies (Army, Navy, Air Force can't use the portal) and 1 is Clemson. That's a total of 4 teams who did not use the portal in 2024. 134 - 4 = 130
There are 9 spots available in the top 10 (Clemson occupies 1).
9 out of a potential 130 teams in FBS who used the portal in 2024 are currently in the Top 10.
9/130 = 6.9%

There are too many variables in the Colorado scenario to claim victory for either the pro-portal or anti-portal factions. I think we can all agree using the portal is not the only change that has happened at Colorado in the past 2 years. And most of the post I've seen claiming Colorado was not evidence of portal success were responses to prior claims that Colorado was evidence of portal success.
A better measure would be to find a school with fewer variables over a longer period of time.

While I do not have the results to back up my beliefs, I would imagine that teams that use the portal exclusively (see 15+ transfers in a given year) relative to teams that do not heavily use the portal will show that the win totals from year to year among heavy portal use teams will vary significantly more than teams not relying on the portal.
This isn’t to say the portal is good or bad. Just that your argument lacks the statistical power to suggest the critics of Colorado from last year were inherently wrong about portal usage when FSU from this year is an immediate counterpoint to justify the claim that when you live by the portal, you die by the portal.
You would need to examine heavy use portal teams vs non-heavy use portal teams to compare the differences in their win totals over the last 3-4 years adjusting for whether they had a coaching change or not in order to justify your argument.

I believe that depends on your definition of "turning it around". If you are basing the definition off of their record this year at 6-2 and not on whether they can sustain winning records for the next year and beyond, then yes, they have turned it around through use of the transfer portal.
One could also argue though that this logic would also apply to no transfers Navy given the two teams similar records of poor performance in recent years.

Much of the negativity surrounded his “emptying” of the Colorado locker room. His scrapping of the team was still pretty fresh news.

Coach Sanders dud what needed to be done to improve his roster and team performance. Lots of games left this year, but the turnaround from a 1-11 season less than 2 years ago is remarkable.

Clemson and Colorado are very different situations.
Colorado was at Rock Bottom.
Coach Sanders has two choices - same old same old and little or no improvement
OR...radical surgery to try to improve. He's done that in 1.5 seasons.
Clemson was at the top of college football for years. Conference championships, playoffs, and two Nattys.
I realize that it's very difficult to stay that elite every year, but too many other programs have done better by being more adaptable.
We'll see how it works for Clemson as Tre season progresses.

Allow me to explain my point here. Bluffton OrangeMan, we all bore witness to the success that FSU had last season by exploiting the advantages of buying a team from the portal. The argument being made is not the fact that a team can have single season success by exploiting young men in the portal. In fact, I believe everyone here can agree that the portal can bring about success for a season. The argument that Coach Swinney and everyone else is making would be long term sustainable success in the method that Coach Swinney is implementing at Clemson.
The method that Coach Prime is using is not only costly at a price tag of $8.8M last season but does not provide long term sustainable success. In other words, it's an unsustainable business model that creates a condition of diminished returns. If Coach Swinney is able to utilize revenue sharing while recruiting his team from high school and develop them the Clemson way, then we are almost guaranteed a ticket to the big dance each and every season. NIL will be used to retain talent on the roster not to recruit talent from the portal.
Further, it is well established that players in the portal worth recruiting were already set on their school of transfer prior to entering the portal and the rest of the recruits in the portal are simply not Clemson caliber players or even worth considering. In short, it is most likely that Coach Prime and Mike Norvell tampered with players at other programs and as you can see FSU who exploited the portal again is not doing so well. Any inexperienced coach can exploit the portal and win 10 games in a single season, but it won't serve them well when the next season rolls around. Under Coach Swinney's method, the players that we recruit and retain will be at Clemson from high school until they graduate. This ensures that the player is developed under the Clemson system which establishes team cohesion and continuity in the quality of a player. Thus, Coach Swinney is 100% correct in the way he is running the recruiting process at Clemson.

Dabo lost 14 guys to the portal just since the bowl game. That's not success or anything close to it.
Bragging about how Dabo develops players ignores the fact that 16% of the scholarship roster from just a year ago was "developed" for the competition.

Dabo is developing them, but whenever you have 5 players at one position, someone is going to ride the pine. Those players who would be riding the pine are leaving. I welcome you the opportunity to share with us a team that has used the portal and gained year after year success. UGA, Alabama, and Texas barely use the portal. However, the recruits that transfer to their programs already had a bag of cash offered to them by those respective teams before entering the portal. That is not the Clemson way, nor should it ever be. Recruit, develop, and excel players right from high school and you'll have longevity in success. Clemson already has a Top 3 NIL program in the nation and next season Dabo will be able to use revenue sharing for recruiting out of high schools which should add to his already successful recruiting history. In fact, Dabo seems to be extremely excited about that and whenever you add in 105 scholarships available starting next season, you'll see championship runs more often. Clemson has had 15 stellar seasons in a row with one slightly down season last year. Clemson is not a program in decline and using the portal to build a team shows despair. We are not a team or program in despair and will probably be back in the playoff this season.
