So I hit into a guy today playing golf

Jul 10, 2016, 8:49 PM

It actually rolled down the cart path and hit him. I thought that the ball was headed for the sand trap - so I didn't yell fore. Needless to say, he was majorly pi$$ed.
After repeatedly apologizing he still stormed off cursing under his breath. That's when I noticed his Gamecock driver cover (I was wearing my Clemson stuff).
I understand that I would've been upset also, but how many times does someone have to apologize?
Has this ever happened to anyone else? Either side... What else could I have done (except for not hit him)

Possibly offer them a Gatorade, or an adult beverage, or Coastal Carolina head cover.....since that's worth more to them.

After apologizizing numerous times you did enough. Some people on the golf course act like that. I've done that by mistake before as well and have gotten similar treatment. His golf game was probably crap and he was just looking for a reason to blow up. He'll live. I wouldn't dwell on it too much.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He probably quit halfway through the round anyways.

They do that over there you know.

Reminds me of a joke by the late, great Mitch Hedberg

Jul 11, 2016, 12:53 AM

I never got a hole in one -- but I did hit a guy, and that's way more satisfying. You're supposed to yell 'Fore,' but I was too busy mumbling 'There ain't no way that's gonna hit him.'

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If he wasn't hurt and you sincerely apologized.

Jul 11, 2016, 4:42 AM

All is good. It happens. I have done it a few times through the many years. I never actually hit anyone, but have hit into a player...came close. It's been years though. One time I had bad yardage and was laying up and hit into someone. The other couple of times I didn't see someone behind a bunker or in some trees possibly. I never hurt anyone. I also caddied when I was young for a few years and would see it fairly often. If he wasn't hurt and you sincerely apologized then all should be fine, especially with a golf path roll. Things happen, even if dangerous.

Buddy of mine in Bermuda on his honeymoon went to play a round

Jul 11, 2016, 7:16 AM

with his beautiful, new bride a few years ago. When tbey got to the first tee box, the starter informed them that Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta Jones were playing in front of them, and that they were to have no contact with them at all during the round. Everything went fine and he said they kept hanging back just trying to let them play like normal people and all was fine until...they got to a hole on the back 9 where he said he had the swing and hit of his life! Said Michael and Catherine were still on the green, and he did not think he had it in him to reach anywhere near where they were when he caught the ball just right and hit right into the middle of the two of them playing. Said Michael Douglas glared at him and yelled something at him which he couldn't hear, but that he and his bride waited and made sure to hang back the rest of the round cause they were now too embarassed to get anywhere near them.

Woulda been a better story had he hit one of them...but still kinda a funny happening.

Re: So I hit into a guy today playing golf

Jul 11, 2016, 9:12 AM

That kinda stuff happens both ways on the course. I was in the middle of my backswing on a tee box at Hejaz in Mauldin when a ball landed on the fly at my left heel. The assailant was a younger guy, 30's and I was 50. His playing partner who was 50'ish aporoached me after my two partners finished hitting, apologizing for the other one, telling me he didn't mean it, etc. acting like he was doing me a favor. I kept nodding my head telling him it was alright. It was like he was daring me to be angry. I told him it was ok and he just kept repeating himself walking beside me as I went to my cart. I told him again its ok. I thought to myself what an #######. The most disingenuous apology I've ever received from anyone.
