That was complete BS - we'd have gone beserk if it had been called on Woods or Parker.
McDonough was spot on when he said "I think they used to call that football". I like Matt Austin, he's usually correct, but not on that one. I hate puzzie football.

I get you may not like the rule, but it’s been the rule for years now. You can’t drive the qb to the ground and land on him with all your weight.
Again, I’m not a fan of the rule, but it’s the rule

I'm glad we got the call, but we had a mirror hit on their qb and didn't get called, it was a half step and clean hit imo. We got boned on calls against scar so I'll take it.

Distinct difference in the hits

It was pointed out by the officiating expert they were asking on the broadcast that the difference is that the Clemson player rolled and landed with his shoulder on the ground rather than his whole body weight on the qb

You are wrong. This is in the rules when you take a QB down forcefully and land on top of the QB with all your weight it is a penalty. NFL is calling it as well.

I respectfully disagree. Defensive players we taking liberties with this type of hit for years. It is really easy to hurt the QB this way. The QBs have to be protected.

Could have called that one.
But they got away with a face mask on another drive.
So it evened out.

When a defender purposefully lands with all of his weight on the QB like that, you are going to get the roughing call. That used to be football, but that’s changed. Targeting used to be football too…. That logic makes no legitimate argument

And fortunately targeting is getting more scrutiny now and is being called less

The guy made a form tackle on Cade... can't fault him for it... what was he supposed to do - count to 1000 and then tackle. That is ##### football.

Roll to the side as you go to the ground so all of Your weight doesn’t land on the qb.
With that said, I know it’s tough, but this isn’t a new rule. It’s been that way for years

how the game is played now.
The defender clearly drove Cade to the ground and put all is weight down on him. The fact that he pulled his arms up highlights that he loaded all is weight on the fall.

Yes, amazing that Alabama of Acc had 0 penalties. We’ve dealt with bigger fish in southwest conference days
