South Carolina Highway 47, known as Cleveland Street, is a 5.74-mile state highway that runs from the south end at US 301 near Elloree to the north end at SC 6/SC 267 in Elloree. Major General William Brandenburg was from Elloree.
 
Five miles from Elloree is 110,000-acre Lake Marion in eastern South Carolina that reaches parts of 5 counties, the largest lake in the state. The lake was created by completion of the Santee Damm on the Santee River in November of 1941, a hydroelectric project of the Santee Cooper utility company under Roosevelt's New Deal which included construction of Lake Moultrie. While the 8-mile-long Santee Damm only produces 2 megawatts of power, the 4-mile-long Pinopolis Damm on Moultrie produces 120 megawatts. A US Army Corps of Engineers project in the 1980s added 84 megawatts of hydroelectric power. World War II hastened the completion of Lake Marion, leaving thousands of stumps, tree trunks, and live cypress trees in the lake. This created great fish habitats, but made boat navigation trickier.

I fished in Lake Marin only once. My cousin was familiar with the area and took his boat down what he said were old road beds with trees on both sides of the narrow channels. Had a snake drop into the boat from a tree limb and was heck to get him out. Won't forget that..... but can't remember if we caught any fish. Saw where some people had built platforms and shelters onto the trees to duck hunt from.

If you ever get a chance to go through the lock in a small boat - it’s quite amazing.
I did it once in a nice sized pontoon and that was cool, but then did it again in a John boat and that was wild

As we become more and more cashless, there is one Clemson tradition that does not get the same practice as it did originally. But Tiger Paw stamped $2 bills are still – and should forever be – a cool Clemson tradition.
Even ESPN gets it:
“The brainchild of George Bennett, an executive director of Clemson's IPTAY booster club, the $2 bills started as a publicity stunt to show cities and football teams that scheduling the Tigers was good for business.
"When you start something like this," Bennett said, "you don't have any idea you're starting a tradition."

Origin of Stamped $2 Bill Tradition:
The tradition began in 1977 when Ga Tech saw how strong Clemson football was becoming and decided to begin ducking Clemson. According to Clemson.edu:
“In 1977, Georgia Tech decided to stop playing football against Clemson. In a show of protest, students and alumni stamped $2 bills with Tiger Paws and used them in Atlanta to illustrate the money Tiger fans spent at athletic events. Today, Clemson fans still use $2 bills when attending away games to show the impact of the Clemson Family across the country.”

“The tradition of the $2 bill started in Sept. 1977 when then IPTAY Executive Secretary George Bennett came up with the idea encouraging fans to bring $2 bills to spend in Atlanta as a way of showing Georgia Tech how much of an impact Clemson fans have on the economy after the GT administration wanted to cancel the football series between the two schools.
“They brought them to Atlanta and made a tremendous impact on Atlanta. I mean spent $2 bills everywhere. There are some great stories about it. We had one of the IPTAY Board Members actually went and bought a suit in Atlanta and paid for the suit with $2 bills,” explained IPTAY Block C Club Executive Director Bob Mahony.”

Today, the tradition still continues. After Clemson’s 2018 Cotton Bowl game ESPN added:
"We had so much fun with it, we started taking them to bowl games and stamping them with tiger paws," Bennett said, "and everywhere we've gone since then, people look forward to us bringing the $2 bills."
At the Bottled Blonde in Dallas, bartender Matt Rasner said about one in five of his customers last week paid with $2 bills. It's an influx of the currency he hadn't seen since -- well, since Clemson was in town for the Texas A&M game in September.”

Banks in the Upstate have to order extra $2 bills before big road games. The Daily Comet (New Orleans) reported the following before Clemson’s trip to the Sugar Bowl in 2020:
“Bonnie Littrell, an officer with First Citizens Bank in Clemson, said she couldn’t divulge the number of bills requested due to security reasons. But she said fans have requested 70 percent more bills ahead of Monday’s national title clash with LSU than they did for the last national championship.
Prior to the week, the bank had to order extra $2 bills from the Federal Reserve, just in case.
“Whether you’re going out or taking an Uber, you want to make sure everyone knows Clemson is there and ready to play,” Littrell said.”
